Pennsylvania man dies in Huron car crash

A two-vehicle crash on Route 2 in Huron has left one man, dead.

A 42 year-old Pennsylvania man died while a passenger in a car driven by another Pennsylvania man who lost control, trying to pass another vehicle yesterday afternoon.

Their car struck a cement barrier, then was struck by a tractor-trailer.

 

Unidentified body found in Lake Erie near Davis-Besse

An unidentified woman’s body was found floating offshore in Lake Erie on Saturday.

A fisherman reportedly found the unidentified female body four miles north of the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station on Lake Erie.

Ottawa County coroner Daniel Cadigan told the Sandusky Register that the woman’s body appeared to be in the water for some time; but there were no signs of external trauma.

An autopsy will be performed by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.

 

Man tries to run over girlfriend in Sandusky

A Sandusky man accused of trying to run over his girlfriend Saturday night is being searched for by police.

36 year-old James Grimes allegedly accelerated his truck and drove towards the female victim; which jumped out of the way; resulting in minor injuries, following an argument.

Grimes then reportedly drove away.

Grimes faces domestic violence and felonious assault charges.

 

Erie County hosting ‘Unclaimed Funds’ event on Tuesday

The Ohio Department of Commerce is hosting an Unclaimed Funds event on Tuesday in Sandusky.

Marlene Chukes, Deputy Superintendent of Unclaimed Funds, told WLKR News that you can check on possible money left for you, a family member, or friend.

The ‘walk-in and check on your funds’ event takes place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Tuesday at the Erie County Service Center.

 

Lt. Governor Taylor steps down as State Insurance Director

Ohio Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor has stepped down as the state’s insurance director.

Deputy Director Jillian Froment will take over as new director.

Taylor stays on as Kasich’s lieutenant; and is expected to eventually run for governor; as she last month began a committee which paves the way for her to begin campaigning and raising funds.

 

Huron County Chamber warns of scam

The Huron County Chamber of Commerce has issued a scam warning to its members.

The chamber says they’ve received a letter saying it was from Huron County Sheriff Todd Corbin’s office, asking for $20 for training.

They told their members to not send money and to tell everyone throughout the county this is a scam.
