Avon Lake man dies in Motorcycle crash on Wednesday
A motorcycle accident just after midnight Wednesday has resulted in the death of an Avon Lake man. 35 year-old Matthew Hatfield of Avon Lake died after being ejected off his cycle after driving off the right side of the road, then crashing into a large sign and utility pole guy-wire. Unsafe speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, according to The Ohio State Highway Patrol Elyria Post.
Public Forums on Parks and Recreation to start tonight in Norwalk
The City of Norwalk will begin hosting a series of 5 public forums tonight focused on parks and recreation. The first forum is tonight at 7:00, and will be all about youth and adult programs with a different forum each Thursday night through August 11th , taking place each evening at the Ernsthausen Community Room at 100 Republic Street. Other topics to be discussed at future forums include neighborhood parks, the aquatic center, and designing the Jaycee Park.

Laid-off firefighters in the city of Lorain are going back to work. The city has shagged a 2-year, 3-million-dollar federal grant for first responders. The firefighters were laid off 2 weeks ago tomorrow, as the city tries to balance its budget.

Oberlin was named one of the 10 most charming towns and small cities in the state by Travel Magazine, an online publication that recommends travel locations to its readers. The survey asked 100 photographers, travel writers and professionals to pick their three favorite small towns with populations between 5,000 and 50,000 in the midwest state they considered “most appealing”. The article describes Oberlin as a “quintessential college town” with heavy community ties.
New Riddell sports equipment facility breaks ground Wednesday
Ground has officially been broken in North Ridgeville, for Riddell’s new facility on Center Ridge Road. Ceremonies were held yesterday. The complex will be the size of 6 football fields. The maker of football gear is moving from a small sight a few miles away in Elyria.
Lottery underway for beginning Fly-Fishing Clinics at Castalia State Fish Hatchery
Anglers interested in learning fly fishing and practicing their skills on Cold Creek at the Castalia State Fish Hatchery are encouraged to enter a lottery for beginning fly-fishing clinics. To apply, applicants must submit a postcard listing name, address, customer ID number and phone number. Only one postcard per applicant is allowed.
