84 Dead in likely Terrorist Attack in France

At least 84 people are dead in an apparent terrorist attack in Nice, France.  A gunman drove a van into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day, then opened fire before he was shot and killed.

 

4-Vehicle Crash in Fitchville Thursday leaves Norwalk man seriously hurt

A Norwalk man was serious injured in a four-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Fitchville in Huron County.  The crash took place Thursday around 1:15 pm on US 250 south of Prospect Road when a car was pulling into their driveway followed by 3 other vehicles, including a motorcycle driven by 34 year-old Luis Herrera of Norwalk.  The last vehicle failed to maintain a clear distance, which struck the vehicle in front of them causing a 4-vehicle chain reaction crash.  Herrera, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to a Toledo hospital with serious injuries.  25 year-old Aaron Rehm of Wooster, who was driving the last vehicle in line, was cited for failing to maintain an assured clear distance.  Alcohol and drugs are not a factor.  The crash remains under investigation by the Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

 

Norwalk Relay for Life is Saturday

The Norwalk Relay for Life cancer fundraiser is set for this Saturday at 12 noon at Whitney Field.  The event includes a Survivors Ceremony and also a Luminaria Ceremony, which honors those who lost their lives to cancer. Distracted Driving the focus of upcoming 6-State Trooper Project

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be focusing on distracted driving in the next 6-State Trooper Project, a multi-state, high-visibility enforcement campaign. It will take place this Sunday through next Saturday, July 23rd.  Patrol superintendent, Colonel Paul Pride says “If you’re behind the wheel, you need to be completely focused on driving”, and that distracted driving is reckless behavior that is taken seriously by troopers.

 

Cedar Point to begin extended Summer Hours tonight

With summer in full swing, Cedar Point will now be staying open later with extended hours, staying open until 11:00 pm weeknights and until 12:00 midnight on Fridays & Saturdays during what’s called “Cedar Point Nights”.  The longer hours begin tonight (July 15th) and continue through August 14th.  Activities include a “Beach Glow Party” with glow in the dark beach games and fireworks, “Ignite the Night” Luminosity music show, and an Iron Dragon virtual-reality riding experience.  The park’s rides and coasters will also feature vibrant LED lighting.

 

Castalia Cold Creek Festival gets underway today

The annual Castalia Cold Creek Celebration begins today and goes on through Sunday. Tonight’s activities include a Scott Gast historical marker ceremony at 6:00 pm at the main stage and a Queen’s Contest at 6:30 pm. On Saturday, a 5K run takes place at 8:30 am followed by a pet parade at 9:00 am and Kids Bike Parade at 10:00 am. The festival wraps up Sunday with a Community Church Service at 9:00 am, antique car show at 10:00 am, and a parade at 2:00 pm
