Roads are expected to be busy for Thanksgiving.

As we first told you last week, AAA says 46.3 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home between today and Sunday. It’s the highest Thanksgiving travel volume since 2007.

 

Despite Tuesday’s jump, road trippers will pay the lowest Thanksgiving fuel price in five years.

There’s no mail or trash pickup tomorrow, and all government offices will be closed. All services will resume Friday.

 

Republicans are working to fill a vacant seat on Norwalk City Council, after the unexpected November 16th death of 2nd-ward councilman Bob Carleton.

A search committee will make recommendations, then will forward those to precinct personnel in Ward 2, for an appointment. Anyone interested should contact Norwalk Mayor Rob Duncan, or drop off a resume at city hall.

 

Be on the lookout for deer while you’re traveling this week, Ohio Insurance Institute indicates deer-vehicle crashes from 2013 were nearly 21,000. Down about 4% from 2012.

Sgt. Tim Hoffman suspects most crashes are due to having some of the most traveled roads in the state, including State Route 2 with 22 deer crashes. With a majority of these crashes happening in the change of the season.

 

 

Out of Cleveland, several hundred protesters temporarily blocked rush-hour traffic Tuesday night making a peaceful stand against a police officer’s fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy who had brandished a real looking toy gun.

Protesters marched to City Hall after leaving the highway, the demonstration came as protesters across the country blasted the decision in Ferguson, Missouri.

 

EHOVE Career Center has received an Auditor of the State award for a clean financial audit report. The award was officially awarded on Nov. 20th indicates districts have met financial and legal requirements on federal, state, and local levels. 

Other Sandusky schools to receive this award include Bellevue, Clyde-Green Springs, Huron, Margaretta, and Vermilion schools.

 

 

Sandusky and Erie County officials have reached an agreement, clearing a major obstacle to getting construction started soon on the Bay View sewer system.

The new 40-year agreement was sought by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which is providing a majority of the funding for the $7 million project to replace septic tank systems with a sewer system.

As of now it is likely the county will be able to seek construction bids for the project early next year.
