Today is the first day presale tickets will be sold, for Saturday’s Division VII state semi-final football game between St. Paul and Trimble.

Tickets will be sold in the St. Paul athletic office between noon and 6:30. Tomorrow, presale tickets will be sold between 8 and noon, and Friday, between 9 and 1. Presale tickets are $8 each, with a portion of the proceeds going to St. Paul. Tickets at the gate are $10. St. Paul and Trimble will play at Mount Vernon’s Yellow Jacket Stadium, with kickoff at 7 Saturday night. If you can’t make it, the game will air live on 95.3 WLKR and wlkrradio.com.


A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the identification of the person or persons who intentionally set fire to a vacant home in Bellevue.

The cause of last Wednesday’s blaze at 324 East Main Street was ruled as arson by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Anyone with information should contact the Bellevue police or fire departments, or the State Fire Marshal’s Office.


A Sandusky man accused of killing an 86-year-old relative, then setting fire to his home, made his initial court appearance yesterday.

33-year-old Joseph Sandy entered a not guilty plea to several charges, including aggravated murder and arson. His next appearance in Erie County Common Pleas Court will be December 22nd. Sandy is accused of fatally stabbing 86-year-old George Martin last December. Authorities said he also set fire to Martin’s Campbell Street home. His wife, 24-year-old Bethany Sandy is facing charges as well. She remains in the Erie County Jail.

 

Following a statewide trend, unemployment rates went down around most of the region.

Huron County’s October jobless rate was 5.8 percent, down from 6.1 percent in September.  In Erie County, unemployment decreased slightly to 4.5 percent.  According to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, October unemployment rates also dropped in Ashland, Lorain, Richland, Sandusky and Seneca Counties.  Jobless rates rose in Crawford and Ottawa counties.


As expected, gas prices have jumped ahead of Thanksgiving.

Area pump prices rose as much as 40 cents yesterday, to $2.89 a gallon.


The announcement was made yesterday…Columbus has been named as one of three finalists, to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

The capital city is up against Philadelphia and New York. Phoenix and Birmingham, Alabama are out of the running. Democratic leaders are expected to make a final decision in late December or early January. Cleveland will host the 2016 Republican National Convention.


Tomorrow is the final day of leaf pickup in Willard.
