It may be spring, but winter weather is on the way…

A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect overnight tonight through 10:00 am Wednesday.

The National Weather Service says that a total of 2 to 6 inches of snow is possible through late tomorrow morning.

In Huron County COVID-19 numbers…

7 new cases were reported on Monday.

A Sandusky man has been convicted on sex charges involving a child. 

According to the Sandusky Register, 32-year-old Darius Knight was found guilty on multiple charges including gross sexual imposition and kidnapping.

Hydrant flushing is scheduled to go on this week in Willard, both on the inside and outside of city limits. 

The City says that customers should not wash their clothes during the flushing, as stains may occur.

Oberlin College has announced; it will invest 140-million-dollars over 4 years, in replacing its aging steam system with geothermal heating and cooling.

Road work rolls on in Huron County…

The Cleveland Road ramp to Route 20 westbound is closing today for pavement repairs.

It’s scheduled to be opened back up by Monday.

New construction on Route 20 bridges over Grafton Road and Route 57 in Lorain County…

Traffic will be maintained, but lane closures are possible.

O-DOT says, the work will continue into August.

The Erie County Health Department just finished its annual tobacco retail compliance checks.

A total of 40 local retailers in Sandusky and Perkins Township were checked, with an underage informant successfully purchasing tobacco products from 9 retailers.

A total of 77 ½ percent of the stores were found to be in compliance with the law, a decrease from 2020 when the retail compliance rate was 89 percent.

According to the latest numbers…

Lorain County Public Health reports; the rate of e-cigarette use by young people has tripled in the past 5 years.

The Lorain County Vaping Task Force is working to reduce those

numbers through an action-plan that includes…

  • Introducing an educational campaign in schools
  • Implementing tobacco-free policies across Lorain County
  • and Spearheading a media campaign for young people

The city of Vermilion has announced; demolition will begin Thursday, of the former Wakefield Mansion near the Lake Erie shoreline.

The building was most recently the home of the Inland Seas Maritime Museum.

The Columbia Eagles have donated 1-thousand-dollars to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Phil Stammitti says, the money will be used to buy ‘needed equipment’ for deputies that they would not have been able to buy this year.

They’ll try again next year…

According to the Sandusky Register, the Sandusky Memorial Day parade has been cancelled for this year, due to COVID-19 concerns.

This is the second year in a row that the parade has been called off.

Thursday, Wesleyan Meadows in Sheffield Village will host a drive-thru donation event, to benefit a food pantry that supports students at Lorain County Community College.

It’ll run from 4 until 6.

The most-needed items…peanut butter and cereal.
