Checking Local Covid-19 numbers…

Statewide there are now over 51,000 cases with over 730 cases reported yesterday which is up from the 21 day average of 581 cases.

Locally in Huron County there are 165 cases. In Erie County there are 226 cases. And In Lorain County there are 937 cases of Covid-19.

 

In other Coronavirus news…

Last week was the first week since late April for the increased utilization of hospital space for Covid-19.

From June 21st through June 27th Ohio has around 500 total Covid-19 patients in hospitals statewide, this week that number rose to around 650.

Despite the growing number of Covid-19 patients there is still ample capacity within hospitals statewide.

 

Governor Mike DeWine announces visitation changes for nursing homes.

Beginning on July 20, nursing homes will be allowed to begin outdoor visitations, provided all safety standards are met, according to DeWine.

“We are confident that our approach provides each facility the flexibility needed to assess their readiness to safely facilitate outdoor visitation and to do so in a transparent way that keeps residents and families informed,” said Governor DeWine.

 

The Erie County Health Department is offering Covid-19 testing.

Tests provided will have no out-of-pocket costs to anyone who lives or works in Erie County. Both nasal swab and antibody tests are available.

Anyone who wants a test should call ahead to schedule an appointment.

 

The Our Street Resurfacing Project will resume today in Norwalk.

The roads scheduled for resurfacing are Rule, Cary, Pleasant, Westwind, and East Washington Street.

Barrels and no parking signs will be posted the day before construction.

 

Huron County Public Health is offering some safety tips for Independence Day during Covid-19.

Huron County Public Health wants to remind residents that mass gatherings of ten or more are still prohibited in the state, and that preventative measures are still important.

Some measures include:

Staying home if you feel sick

Avoiding others who are sick

Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth

Washing you hands for at least 20 seconds

Wearing masks while in public, and

Maintaining a distance of 6ft between yourself and others even while outdoors

 

The Lorain County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the teenager who died last Friday in an A-T-V crash…

Devin Hayes of Lorain was 17.

The crash occurred on private property, off of Whitehead Road in Carlisle Township.

 

COVID-19 is creating havoc for communities across the country, trying to come up with budgets for the next fiscal year.

In Elyria, a sharp decline in tax revenue in recent months…

 

Look for slowdowns today in LaGrange…

Crews will be striping the square.

Businesses will be open, with parking OFF the square.

 

Gunshots ring out in Elyria…two people are in the hospital…and police are looking for a man they consider ‘armed and dangerous’.

Just before midnight, Elyria Police went to Bohannon Court on a report of ‘shots fired’.

They found two wounded people…who were taken to Metro in Cleveland.

And now…police are looking for 18 year old Theo Thomas Junior.

 

A coalition of local foundations has awarded a fourth round of grants to support Lorain County non-profits during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the latest recipients;

  • The Lorain County Urban League
  • Oberlin Community Services
  • And the United Way of Greater Lorain County

 

The foundations have now awarded more than 218-thousand-dollars to

23 organizations, to support emergency assistance, education and

youth services, and infrastructure.
