Checking Coronavirus numbers:

Ohio now has over 51,700 cases statewide. 743 cases reported yesterday which is above the 21 day average of 601 cases.

Locally Erie County has 228 cases of Covid-19.

Huron County has 170 cases.

Lorain County has 947 cases of Covid-19.

 

Huron County Public Health is investigating a Long-Term Care facility for an outbreak of Covid-19.

The outbreak is located at the Willows in Willard. As of yesterday there are eight confirmed cases, five residents and three staff members at the facility.

Cases were identified through routine testing which is ongoing for all residents and staff. The outbreak is still currently under investigation.

 

An outbreak of Covid-19 has been identified at Put-in-Bay.

Multiple residents of Erie County are believed to have contracted Covid-19 while on the island and are currently awaiting test results.

These individuals were all on Put-in-Bay from June 17th to June 21st. The Erie County Health Department is currently investigating the cases.

 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle crash in Wakeman Township.

59-year-old Hershel Randolph of Wakeman was driving a motorcycle south on SR 60 when he went off the road and hit a sign.

Randolph was flown to Cleveland Metro Hospital with serious injuries.

Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.

 

A Sandusky man has been sentenced to prison for child assault.

According to the Sandusky Register…

A Sandusky man, who was sentenced to prison earlier this year for a police standoff case, has received another sentence in a case regarding child sex accusations.

33 year-old Justin Sattler pleaded guilty in Erie County common pleas court to a felonious assault charge.

According to the indictment, the victim of the assault was 17 at the time of the case.

 

The Our Street Resurfacing Project continues today in Norwalk.

The roads scheduled for resurfacing are Rule, Cary, Pleasant, Westwind, and East Washington Street.

Barrels and no parking signs will be posted the day before construction.

 

A couple of traffic updates for the city of Sandusky.

Shoreline Drive will re-open to 2-way traffic this Thursday, July 2nd.

The Sandusky Bay Pathway is also open to pedestrians and bicyclists on the north side of Shoreline Drive.

 

Tree trimming is going on in the city of Willard this week.

City crews will be trimming trees on Washington Street throughout this week.

The city has also put up temporary no parking signs, which are in effect from 7am until 3pm.

 

An Elyria firefighter has been placed on paid administrative leave.

52 year old William Schaffer of Wellington has a date tomorrow in federal court.

Schaffer is accused of having child pornography on his home computer.

 

Today, the Elyria Public Library System will re-open its West River and South branches…with health and safety protocols.

Visitors must wear a mask and will be limited to 30-minutes.

Seating tables will NOT be available.

 

Final preparations are underway for the return of Lorain Lighthouse tours.

They’ll begin Friday…with health and safety protocols…including…fewer passengers per trip…and everyone wearing facial coverings.

Lorain Lighthouse dinners will resume July 14th.

 

Lorain County Judge Chris Cook has given the Days Inn near the Midway Mall, 90 days to get its operations in order…otherwise…risk a shutdown.

According to the Chronicle Telegram, the mandate comes after hundreds of nuisance complaints to police in recent years.

Police say, that includes three drug overdoses in one week, in May.

 

School leaders in Lorain have issued a public ‘thank you’ to interim CEO Greg Ring for his exemplary service over the past 6 months.

Ring led the Lorain City Schools after David Hardy Junior was voted out by the Academic Distress Commission late last year.

Former Lorain Schools Superintendent…Dr. Jeff Graham…takes over as the new CEO.

 

The WAYNE County Fair Board has voted to prohibit vendors from displaying or selling the Confederate Flag from the fairgrounds when the annual fair opens in September.

The vote comes after 5 years of debate.

A post on the WAYNE County Fair Board’s website reads…“The purpose of the Wayne County Fair is to bring the community together”.

And…

“The Wayne County Fair Board would never condone acts that would cause unrest and harm to others”.

 

Police in Lorain are investigating a break-in, to a shed, at The Boys and Girls Club on Pearl Avenue in Lorain.

More than 13-thousand-dollars in equipment was taken, including a new, commercial-grade, zero-turn lawn mower, valued at about 7-thousand-dollars.

That mower was used at Boys and Girls Clubs in Lorain and Erie Counties.

 

As more and more people buy electric vehicles, the Ohio Department of Transportation has finalized a study, to expand electric-vehicle charging-access across the state.

3-and-a-half-million-dollars in grants will be available for “Level 2” chargers, with another 5-million-dollars coming next year for “DC Fast” chargers.

 

In Toledo, 4 members of city council and an attorney face federal, criminal charges.

They’re accused of taking bribes from business-owners in exchange for votes on Toledo City Council.

One is accused of threatening a business owner with protests, negative media attention and a potential loss of a liquor license unless he paid 25-hundred dollars to a customer who had claimed the business owner used racial slurs.

 

Today, you can get the lowdown on the United Way of Greater Lorain County during a “Virtual Community Chat” with President and CEO Ryan Aroney.

It’ll be broadcast today on the United Way’s YouTube Channel, from 5 to 6pm.

 

Chances are, you’ll see more and more cars in Ohio without front license plates.  They are no longer required.

The budget-cutting move was approved earlier this year by state lawmakers as part of the state transportation budget.
