Two young children were seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash last night in Huron County.
A 20-month old and 9-year-old were passengers in a PT Cruiser, driven by 51-year-old Tina Huntington of Plymouth, which was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of U.S. 224 and Route 61 in New Haven.
The State Highway Patrol says the truck driver, 49-year-old Matthew Brenneman of Sunbury, Ohio; was traveling south on Route 61 and hit the right rear passenger door of Huntington’s car; which was driving north on Route 61 and turning west onto U.S. 224.
Both drivers were unhurt.
A 33-year-old Milan man was charged with ‘failure to yield’ following a crash Monday afternoon.
According to the Sandusky Register, Shawn Bahnsen struck a motorcycle while attempting to turn into a private drive on Mudbrook Road in Milan Township.
The motorcycle driver, a man from Huron, suffered non-serious injuries.
The U.S. Coast Guard says a life jacket saved the life of a woman found in Lake Erie near Port Clinton on Monday morning.
The woman had been riding on a jet-ski when she became separated from the watercraft.
Meanwhile…the search continues for a missing Vermilion woman who disappeared Sunday afternoon while swimming in the waters in Nickel Plate Beach in Huron.
Officials in Erie County have closed Nickel Plate Beach until further notice while attempting to locate 29-year-old Brittany Young.
This comes after an Ashland man drowned while trying to rescue several children two weeks ago at Nickel Plate Beach.
The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says tornado sirens were activated in Erie and Huron County yesterday evening due to a funnel cloud being spotted.
Authorities say a Huron County Sheriff’s Deputy made the spotting in the southeastern part of Erie County…but after checking the area, there were no indications of a tornado.
A boil alert is in effect for the entire village of Plymouth until further notice.
This comes after a reported, massive, water main break in the area of Trux Street near the American Legion last night.
An area man has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison in connection with the burglary of a Norwalk pastor’s residence.
The Norwalk Reflector reports that 39-year-old Ryan Justice pled guilty to two counts of burglary and a count of forgery in a plea deal.
Justice was accused in April of breaking into the rectory at St. Mary’s Church on West League Street; where he reportedly stole a laptop and a $600 check; which he allegedly attempted to use by forging a signature.
The Ohio Department of Education and Harvard University have announced, 19 Ohio schools have been selected to join the “Proving Ground” network of districts that will work together, to address the challenges of chronic absenteeism, college readiness and college enrollment in rural education.
The list includes…Black River, Edison and New London.
The Red Cross will host a blood drive today at Vermilion High School, in support of Cam Colahan…a sophomore fighting a soft-tissue cancer.
Today’s blood drive will run from 1:00 until 7:00 pm in the Vermilion High gym.
