First responders in Florence Township and Vermilion have rescued half a dozen teens from the Vermilion River.
It happened last night, when the teens crossed the river…but could not return when water-levels rose.
It took several hours to pull them to safety.
The highway patrol is investigating a two-car crash in Lorain County’s Henrietta Township that put three people in the hospital.
It happened yesterday, just before noon, at Route 113 and Vermilion Road.
Troopers believe, 49-year-old Steven Copley of Elyria turned in front of an oncoming car driven by 55 year old Melissa Yakunovich of Wakeman.
Both were hurt, along with Yakunovich’s 3-year-old grandson.
A group of first responders from the Norwalk-area took part in a training exercise Tuesday afternoon at the Huron County Fairgrounds…
Emergency crews worked on various scenarios including mass casualties, patient assessment and trauma skills.
Participants included the Norwalk Fire Department, North Central EMS in Milan, Citizen’s Ambulance in Wakeman, Fisher-Titus Medical Center and MetroHealth.
City of Huron Mayor Brad Hartung has resigned…effective immediately.
According to the Sandusky Register, councilman Trey Hardy said that Hartung gave him his resignation later Monday evening.
Hardy is temporarily holding the job of mayor…with the city having 30 days to fill the position.
A new trial is underway in Erie County for a Sandusky pastor accused of sexually abusing children…
58-year-old Richard Mick of Castalia, who worked for Sandusky Lighthouse Church, is charged with two counts of rape and multiple counts of gross sexual imposition.
He was previously convicted in 2016 and sentenced to life in prison in connection with crimes involving two of the three victims.
According to the Sandusky Register, an appeals court overturned his conviction and has given him this new trial…after Mick claimed he received ineffective counsel.
Governor Mike DeWine has signed House Bill 6…the one that provides a public bailout of First Energy nuclear power plants near Oak Harbor and Perry in Lake County.
Ohioans will soon see a new ‘fee’ on their electric bills to finance the 1-billion-dollar bailout.
Supporters say, those power plants employ about 14-hundred workers, generate millions-of-dollars in local tax revenue, and provide clean energy.
Opponents say, the public should not have to rescue the utility, and that the bill eliminates incentives for solar and wind projects.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is focused on bringing awareness to distracted driving at the 2019 Ohio State Fair in Columbus; which opens today.
A driving simulator will be in the Patrol’s booth; providing a realistic experience in a virtual environment on the dangers of being distracted.
The Patrol says that last year; there were nearly 14,000 crashes in Ohio that involved one or more drivers that were distracted by something in their vehicle…with 47 of those crashes resulting in 51 deaths.
