Erie County/Murder suspect in Sandusky-area

Sandusky Police say a man with an active warrant for his alleged involvement in a murder in Mississippi last weekend…has been confirmed to be in the Sandusky-area.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Omni Turner to notify them immediately.

Turner is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

 

Erie County/Multiple injuries in motorcycle/SUV crash

Four people hurt…two of those seriously…in a motorcycle/SUV crash Wednesday afternoon on U.S. 6 near the Angry Bull restaurant in Huron Township.

According to the Sandusky Register, the driver and passenger of a motorcycle were both ejected when a Ford Escape failed to yield while turning into a driveway.

The two cycle riders were flown to a trauma center…the two people inside the Escape were hospitalized.

Names of those involved have not been released.

 

State News/Ohio Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony today

Close to 800 Ohio peace officers who have died in the line of duty since the early 1800’s will be honored later this morning…during the annual Ohio Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony.

It takes place at 11:00-am at the state’s training academy in Columbus.

 

State News/House Bill 154 approved by Ohio House

It’s now up to the Ohio Senate to consider whether school systems under state-control…such as Lorain…will return to LOCAL control.

Yesterday, the Ohio House voted 83 to 12 in favor of House Bill 154…a bi-partisan bill submitted by State Representative Joe Miller of Amherst.

The bill would abolish so-called “Academic Distress Commissions” and prevent new ones from being set up.

Currently, “Academic Distress Commissions” are operating in Lorain, Youngstown and East Cleveland.

 

Vermilion/Prayer gathering today

A ‘Community Prayer Gathering’ will be held today in Vermilion.

12 noon…at the Victory Park Gazebo

It’s being hosted by the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce and Vermilion Ministerial Association.

 

Huron County/Norwalk PD birthday party

The Norwalk Police Department is hosting a birthday party.

A ‘116 Years of Service Celebration’ will take place Saturday from 11:00-am to 1:00-pm…with residents invited to share some cake and coffee with local officers.

 

Erie County/Drivers needed

Cancer Services of Erie County says they’re in need of volunteer drivers.

Qualifications include a clean driving record, insurance and time to commit.

You’re asked to give them a call if interested.

 

Erie County/Sandusky Lions Park cleanup

The Erie County Conservation District is looking for some help in cleaning up some areas of Lions Park in Sandusky.

Those volunteering will be asked to help pull weeds, prune plants, spread mulch and remove trash from landscape beds.

It happens Saturday 9 to 11-am and next Thursday 5 to 6:30-pm…with volunteers asked to register online.
