Erie County/Man dies from injuries in motorcycle/SUV crash

A Huron man has died from injuries suffered Wednesday in a motorcycle-SUV crash on U.S. 6 in Erie County near the Angry Bull restaurant.

Matthew Solberg was 51.

Solberg and a passenger were both ejected from their bike when a Ford Escape failed to yield for them while turning into a driveway.

 

Erie-Lorain County/Mississippi murder suspect caught

The U-S Marshalls Office says, they’ve captured a man, suspected of murder in Mississippi and wanted in Lorain on multiple warrants.

Omni Turner was found yesterday, at an apartment complex on Cleveland’s east side.

Authorities believed that Turner was in the Sandusky-area at some point earlier this week.

Turner is now in the Lorain County Jail, awaiting extradition to Mississippi.

 

Huron County/Fatal crash

A Sheffield Lake man was killed in a one-car crash Thursday afternoon in Huron County’s Hartland Township.

Joey Fetty was 39.

The Highway Patrol says that Fetty failed to negotiate a curve on Fitchville River Road, south of Court Road…hitting a mailbox on the right side of the road; and then going into a ditch and overturning into several trees on the left side of the roadway.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor.

 

Erie County/Multi-injury crash on Route 4

Three people were hospitalized following a two-car crash in Erie County Thursday morning.

According to the Sandusky Register, a car driven by 37-year-old Nick Maltese failed to yield to an SUV driven by 75-year-old Sally Galloway at the intersection of State Routes 4 and 99 in Groton Township.

The car then pulled into the path of the SUV.

Both were taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center; along with Maltese’s wife, Amanda.

 

Huron County/Primary Election info

Primary or Special Election Day is Tuesday…

Huron County officials want to remind residents that there will be a Republican ballot for the Norwalk Mayoral race and an issues ballot for Plymouth Village.

The Board of Elections is open for early voting…today from 8 to 7, Saturday 8 to 4, Sunday 1 to 5 and Monday 8 to 2.

 

Huron County/Safe Communities Click It or Ticket campaign kick-off

The Huron County Safe Communities Coalition has announced that they will be partnering with local McDonald’s restaurants for two ‘Community Safety Day’ events.

It’s part of their kickoff for the national ‘Click It or Ticket’ seat belt campaign.

Events will take place at McDonald’s restaurants…May 16th in Bellevue and May 21st in Willard…starting at 11:00 am in both locations.

 

Vermilion/Local man appointed to Ohio Parole Board

The president of Vermilion City Council has another gig…

Steven Herron has been appointed by Governor Mike DeWine to the Ohio Parole Board for a six-year term.

Herron is also an assistant defender for the Ohio Public Defender Commission.

 

Erie County/Sandusky “Take the Kids Fishing” Fun Day

The City of Sandusky Recreation Department is hosting a “Take the Kids Fishing” Fun Day on Sunday.

Taking place 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Shoreline Park…

This free event is open to children ages 5 to 17…accompanied by a responsible adult, who will need to sign a waiver.

It’s part of the state’s free fishing days…this Saturday and Sunday…with no fishing license required to cast a line.

 

Huron County/Vargo’s closed today and tomorrow

Vargo’s Drive-In in Norwalk says they’ll be closed today and tomorrow for parking lot maintenance.

Don’t worry though…they’ll be back open for business on Sunday.

 

Erie County/Perkins Bike Rodeo

A bike rodeo for children 15 and under is set for Saturday morning at Perkins Local Schools’ Furry Elementary.

The fun runs 10:00 am to 12 noon…with bike safety activities.
