Ottawa County/Put-in-Bay Village Officials Indicted
Two Put-in-Bay officials have been indicted by an Ottawa County Grand Jury on public corruption charges stemming from a state probe into public corruption allegations within the village.
Mayor Bernard “Mack” McCann is alleged to have used his position as mayor to secure waterline project contracts for a business associate.
Former Fiscal Officer Kelly Niese is alleged to have disbursed village funds to herself without authorization of village council.
Huron County/Willard burglar going to prison
A convicted burglar and drug defendant from Willard is on his way to prison for 4-and-a-half years.
31-year-old Curtis Newsome pled guilty to burglary and drug charges after reaching a plea deal where prosecutors dismissed 10 felonies.
Huron County/Anti-bullying awareness events
The family of a Willard teen whom they believe took his own life because of bullying has planned a couple of events in his memory during this National Bullying Awareness Month.
14-year-old Caleb Hershiser died in April of 2017.
A group picture is planned for Saturday in front of a billboard on Ohio Route 61 between Norwalk and Willard…the billboard picturing Caleb and the message “Bullying has to Stop”.
A chili-cook off will also take place October 27th at Willard Christian Alliance Church to raise money for a scholarship in Caleb’s memory.
Huron County/‘Failure to yield’ crashes a problem in the county
A reminder to Huron County drivers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol…
Crashes caused by the “failure to yield” violation accounted for 26% of the total injury and fatal crashes over the past three years in the county.
The Patrol is asking motorists to pay attention to which vehicles have the right-of-way and yield to them.
For the rest of 2018, Norwalk Troopers will maintain high visibility at all high crash intersections and will utilize strict enforcement of failure to yield violations to make Huron County roads safer.
Erie County/Fallen firefighters’ tribute
Erie County firefighters on Sunday will pay tribute to 13 local firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The 24th annual “Silent Alarm” parade begins at 5:30 pm, running along Columbus Avenue in Sandusky; ending at the Erie County Firefighter’s Memorial by the county courthouse.
Fire equipment will be driving at a slow pace with lights flashing; but will not use their horns or sirens.
Erie County/EHOVE Career Center 50th birthday
EHOVE Career Center in Milan is celebrating 50 years this weekend.
A car show and complimentary brunch will be held Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, including a rededication ceremony.
All former alumni and staff are invited to take tours of the facility.
Huron County/Smetzer Kitchen & Appliance Center wins award
An honor for a Norwalk business…
Smetzer Kitchen and Appliance Center has received the 2018 Brand-Source Dealer of the Year award for the Tri-State Region.
The awarded was handed out recently at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Huron County/Human Society “Bark in the Dark 5K” is Saturday
The Huron County Humane Society is holding a Halloween-themed fundraiser on Saturday.
The “Bark in the Dark 5-K” and Family Fun Event runs from 4:00 to 9:00 pm at the Huron County Fairgrounds in Norwalk…featuring games for dogs and children along with food and vendors…before wrapping up with a 5-K run.
