Huron County/Norwalk man convicted of involuntary manslaughter out of prison

A 23-year-old man formerly of Norwalk, who pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter, has been released from prison after being incarcerated for less than 10 months.

Kendal Scheid was sentenced last December to three years behind bars in connection with the 2016 stabbing death of his 23-year-old college roommate at Akron, Duncan Unternaher of Newark; which Akron Police said occurred during a drunken argument over fast food.

Summit County Common Pleas Judge Mary Margaret Rowlands granted Scheid the early release; saying she told him he would be let out early if he behaved in prison.

Scheid was placed on four years probation.

 

Erie County/Man from Milan guilty of rape

A Milan man could spend life in prison after being found guilty Friday on multiple counts of rape and gross sexual imposition charges involving a young girl.

Milan Police arrested 36-year-old Nickolas Moore in March of 2017 following an investigation.

 

Sandusky County/Clyde babysitter’s conviction overturned by state court

A Clyde babysitter is headed back to court after being convicted of harming a 5-month-old infant; who suffered brain hemorrhages from a fall.

38-year-old Chantal Thoss was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2016; but a state appeals court has ruled that she deserves a new trial due to evidence issues.

 

Erie County/Sandusky apartment fire

A 33-year-old man was hospitalized following an apartment fire Friday evening in Sandusky.

According to fire officials, the blaze broke out in an upstairs apartment in the 400 block of Hendry Street; and was extinguished in about 15 minutes.

The fire is under investigation.

 

Erie County/Woman hurt when man breaks in

A Sandusky woman was treated for a serious cut to her head after she said a man broke in to her East Farewell Street home Friday night and attacked her.

Police charged 46-year-old Marvin Roberts of Sandusky with aggravated burglary and felonious assault after tracking him down at his home on Third Street.

 

Huron County/Norwalk Fire Department offers fire safety tips

This is Fire Prevention Week…with the Norwalk Fire Department promoting this year’s theme of “Look, Listen, Learn.  Fire can happen anywhere.”

According to the National Fire Protection Association; statistics show that the number of U.S. home fires has been steadily declining over the past few decades.

However, the death rate per 1,000 reported home fires was 10 percent higher in 2016 than in 1980.

 

Erie County/Sandusky the best retirement option in Ohio

Where’s the best place to retire in Ohio?

Sandusky…according to a list from Forbes.

The magazine looked at data from over 650 cities in the country where they compared factors such as the cost of living, crime rates, doctor availability and the housing market.

Parma finished second on the list.
