One man dead in apparent shooting in Sandusky

Sandusky Police are investigating a fatal shooting last night in the MacArthur Park area.

Police say 46-year-old Anthony Pearson of Sandusky was shot and killed during the incident.

Pearson’s body was found in the driver’s seat of a truck that was parked on Parkview Boulevard.

Authorities are continuing to look into possible suspects.

 

Attorney General DeWine awards $2.7 million in grants for drug use prevention education

 More than $2.7 million in grant funds have been awarded to 130 sheriffs’ offices and police departments in Ohio for drug use prevention education programs in public schools.

In Huron and Erie Counties, the following law enforcement agencies received funds:

Huron County Sheriff’s Office: $15,588.00

Norwalk Police Department: $11,280.00

Willard Police Department:  $11,907.00

Erie County Sheriff’s Office:  $7,480.00

Huron Police Department: $8,121.00

Perkins Township Police Department: $18,840.64

Grant recipients are required to include over-the-counter and prescription drug abuse prevention education in their programs.

 

Ohio State Highway Patrol holding OVI checkpoint in Erie County

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has announced that an OVI checkpoint will be held in Erie County on Friday evening in conjunction with the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and Perkins Township Police Department.

Data shows that in the past three years there have been 173 OVI related crashes within a three mile radius of the checkpoint area; which will likely be announced tomorrow.

 

Perkins Schools’ facilities levy is a go

A facilities levy will appear on the November ballot for Perkins Schools.

Board members at Perkins Schools have passed a resolution to go ahead with their 2-mill, 5-year permanent improvement renewal levy.

The levy was last passed in May of 2013 and ends its collection next year.

If passed, the money would be used for various maintenance projects including the replacing of bleachers and floor at Briar Middle School.

 

Greenwich man sentenced to time in drug abuse treatment center

A Greenwich man will spend four to six months in a substance abuse treatment center after violating his probation.

34-year-old Anthony Mitchell has been charged with cocaine possession and tampering with evidence.

Mitchell was originally convicted for attempting to bring the drug Suboxone, used for treating opiate addiction, into the Huron County Jail with him.

 

Two condemned homes tore down in Perkins Township

Two blighted properties have been demolished in Perkins Township on Carbon and Grant avenues.

Seven other structures have also been ordered to be torn down on Beatty, Grant, Oakland, Spencer and Tremper avenues.

Officials would also like to demolish four more additional properties at some point this year.

 

School supply drive going on Saturday for Western Reserve Schools

A ‘Stuff the Bus’ school supply drive will take place this weekend for students at Western Reserve Schools.

If you wish to donate supplies or make a monetary donation, stop by the Dollar General in Wakeman on Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.
