Possible altercation at Huron County Jail under investigation
An incident at the Huron County Jail is under investigation by the state.
According to the Norwalk Reflector, The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is looking into a possible altercation on July 24th involving a corrections officer and two inmates.
An inmate was hurt during the incident.
Charges could be filed against a corrections officer based on the findings
The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Names of those involved have not been released.
Erie County Fair says rides are safe
Final preparations are taking place now for next week’s Erie County Fair in Sandusky.
Fair board president Bob McDowell told the Sandusky Register that he’s confident the fair will provide a safe experience for those using the rides this year.
McDowell noted that the ride company they’re using, Lisko Family Amusements, has one of the best safety records for carnival rides in the state; and that the Erie County Fair has never had a ride incident in its history
This comes in the wake of the fatal ride accident on July 26th at the Ohio State Fair on a ride from the Amusements of America company.
OSU President visits the area
Ohio State University President Michael Drake was in Erie County on Tuesday, making a stop at the Pied Piper Drive-In in Huron.
Drake said the people in Ohio are great; and when he moved to Ohio, part of the real draw to the state was the quality of the people; which is he pleased to be able to meet.
The visit was part of Drake’s two-day bus tour of northern Ohio; in which he later visited OSU’s Stone Lab on Put-in-Bay.
School supply drive going on now for Norwalk and Norwalk Catholic students
It’s time to ‘stuff the bus’ for students attending Norwalk City and Norwalk Catholic Schools.
Those that qualify can register for free school supplies tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Norwalk Salvation Army.
A school supply collection event will take place Friday at the Norwalk Board of Education Office.
School supplies will then be distributed next Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Salvation Army.
Fisher-Titus Medical Center wins technology award
Norwalk’s Fisher-Titus Medical Center has received an honor for their use of technology.
The award comes from the 19th Annual Health Care Most Wired Survey; in which Fisher-Titus was one of 29 hospitals in the state selected for the designation of ‘Most Wired’.
Recent projects implemented by Fisher-Titus include cyber security upgrades and plans to upgrade the electronic medical record systems of many physicians’ offices.
The hospital currently uses iPhones for patient care.
Huron County Public Health offering ‘Baby Sleep Safe’ program
Huron County Public Health (HCPH) is distributing free portable cribs to qualifying families in the area.
The program, Huron County Baby Sleep Safe, promotes safe sleep environments for infants, by providing a crib and education to qualified families and caregivers of infants who lack a safe sleep area for their baby.
Families are eligible for the Huron County Baby Sleep Safe program if they meet the income guidelines for the WIC program.

MLB BASEBALL – INDIANS LOSE A WILD ONE IN BOSTON LAST NIGHT
Cleveland lost 12-10 at Boston on Tuesday night
-The Indians led 5-0 early before Boston tied the game with a 5-run 2nd inning that knocked pitcher Carlos Carrasco out of the game. The Tribe then took a 7-5 lead in the 5th but Boston took the lead 9-7 with 4-run 6th inning.
-Cleveland grabbed the lead back 10-9 with 2 runs in the 9th off Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel; but Boston catcher Christian Vazquez hit a 3-run walk-off home run with 2 outs in the 9th inning off Tribe closer Cody Allen to give the Red Sox a wild win at Fenway.
-Tribe center fielder Austin Jackson robbed Boston’s Hanley Ramirez of a solo-home run in the 5th by making an unbelievable catch by leaping at the right center field wall and landing in the bullpen while holding on to the baseball. Jackson’s grab could be the play of the year in Major League Baseball.
-The Indians wrap up their 3-game series at Boston tonight at 6:37/7:10 pm – LIVE on 95.3 WLKR and AM 930 WEOL. Trevor Bauer will be on the mound for Cleveland.
