Death of Willard teen under investigation

The Willard Police Department has begun an investigation on the death of an eighth grade Willard student.

14 year-old Caleb Hershiser died Sunday night shortly after being taken to Willard Mercy Hospital.

The Norwalk Reflector says Willard Police started their investigation after receiving a tip that bullying might have been a factor in the boy’s death; although Police Chief Mark Holden says it doesn’t appear to look that way.

 

Norwalk Mayor Rob Duncan intends to veto medicinal marijuana legislation

Norwalk Mayor Rob Duncan plans to veto the vote by city council Tuesday night that allowed for medicinal marijuana cultivation in the city.

The mayor said there are just too many unknowns at this time; including profits and costs; as well as the positive and/or negative effects it would have on the city.

Duncan will be drafting a letter explaining his veto to council; which council will then decide to agree on; or try to override.

Norwalk City Council hold its’ next meeting on Tuesday the 18th.

 

State Fire Marshal’s office visits Norwalk Fire Department

As part of their ‘Listening Tour’, the State Fire Marshal’s Office stopped by the Norwalk Fire Department on Tuesday.

Norwalk Fire Chief John Soisson  said a key focus of their discussion was  how the State Fire Marshal could help the department in applying for grants and available money; due to budget constraints.

The meeting coincided with Governor John Kasich’s visit to Sandusky.

 

Norwalk man arrested twice in one afternoon for DUI

A Norwalk man was arrested twice in the same afternoon for driving drunk.

38 year-old Cory Collins was first stopped around 1:30 pm Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Whittlesey and Grand.

After he was released, Collins was then arrested again around 4:00 pm on a second DUI charge.

Collins was taken to the city jail; where he was held until he became sober.

 

Clyde Police Chief to retire

Clyde Police Chief Bruce Gower has announced his retirement.

Gower has spent 38 years in law enforcement; becoming police chief in Clyde back in 1996.

Gower’s last day will be May 13th.

The new chief will be Monti Campbell; who has been with the Clyde PD since 1992.
