Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools’ teacher dies in crash

A Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools teacher was among three people killed in a crash early Sunday morning in Lucas County.

33 year-old Whitney Meinke was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by another vehicle that ran a stop sign.

The elementary school’s conference room will be open today from 10:00 to 2:00 pm for anyone who needs comforting and wants to remember Meinke.

Meinke is survived by two children and a husband.

 

Huron County Sheriff looking for New London man that allegedly drove through wall at Cross Roads Tavern

The Huron County Sheriff’s Department is looking into an incident involving a New London man; who allegedly drove his vehicle into the Cross Roads Tavern in Wakeman on Friday night.

According to the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, 42 year-old Brian Pickett was asked to leave the establishment after an altercation inside the bar.  He was then seen backing into a side wall of the tavern in a dark colored SUV; before heading south on Butler Road.

No injuries were reported.

Huron County Public Health offering advice on medicine safety

As part of National Poison Prevention Week, Huron County Public Health (HCPH) would like to highlight the importance of medicine safety.

During this year’s campaign, HCPH is encouraging Huron County residents to take a closer look at how they take, store, and dispose of their medications.  Some medicine safety tips include:

-Only take prescription medications that are prescribed to you.

– Never take more doses than prescribed

– Store medicines up, away, and out-of-sight.

-Properly dispose of unused and unneeded medications

In case of poisoning, HCPH says if the person is alert you can call the poison help number (1-800-222-1222). If the person is not alert, call 9-1-1, and give the dispatcher as much information as possible.

 

Bellevue woman apparently not missing afterall

A woman first thought to be missing last week in Bellevue has apparently been active on social media.

The Norwalk Reflector says even though there’s been no word from authorities, the woman has made several Facebook posts; since her mother on Heter Street said she had not heard from her in a number of days.

It started when Bellevue Police received a call last week about a vehicle that had been sitting behind a Kilbourne Street building for four days.

 

Milan man injures himself when gun misfires

A Milan Township man was injured Saturday when he accidentally shot himself in the hand after his gun misfired.

The 47 year-old Kelley Road man told authorities that it was accidental and not related to domestic violence.

The man apparently bought the gun at an auction earlier in the day.
