Governor Kasich to hold ‘State of the State’ address in Sandusky
Governor John Kasich is bringing his ‘State of the State’ address to Sandusky. Kasich sent a letter to the General Assembly requesting a joint session in Sandusky for April 4th at 7:00 pm, at the Sandusky State Theatre. The governor said that holding the address in Sandusky is a perfect opportunity to show off the state’s crown jewel of Lake Erie. This is the sixth year in a row that the ‘State of the State’ will be held outside of the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
Margaretta girls’ basketball coach suspended
Long time girls’ basketball coach at Margaretta, Tim Tucker, was suspended last week after allegedly making rude comments to team members; according to a letter from the district’s athletic director. The Sandusky Register reports that the letter, dated February 10th, said Tucker would be put on administrative leave pending an investigation. Tucker’s supporters said they will gather at the Village Pizza House before the Margaretta girls game at Port Clinton on Thursday. Tucker is in his 36th season at Margaretta; and is the area’s winningest coach in girls and boys basketball.
Deadline for Norwalk Bicentennial Pub Crawl approaching
Those looking to participate in the Maple City Ice Norwalk Bicentennial Pub Crawl need to register by Wednesday at the Huron County Chamber of Commerce in Norwalk. Bicentennial Committee member Chris Castle said the best advice for those yet to sign up is to put together a strong, knowledgeable team. The event, for ages 21 and up, takes place Saturday, February 25th from 2:30 to 7:00 pm and includes teams competing in a trivia competition based on Norwalk history; while visiting 7 Norwalk bars. The winning team takes home four-$50 chamber gift certificates.
Edison wins Team State Wrestling Championship
First it was the girls golf team in the fall. Now this winter, another state championship for Edison High School, as the Chargers took home the Division 3 Wrestling Dual Team state title on Sunday. Head Coach David Hermes told WLKR News that the feeling of winning the title was unbelievable…and for his kids to go out there and accomplish what they did really shows what they teach as a program: to fight for every single point and to not give anything to anybody. Edison defeated Mechanicsburg and Massillon Tuslaw to win the championship in Columbus.
