Two perish in Sunday crash in Lorain County; including New London man

Drug and phone use by a New London driver are suspected factors in a Sunday afternoon crash in Lorain County that killed two men. 21 year-old Cody Wallace of New London was killed when he drove left of center on State Route 58 in Wellington Township and struck another vehicle head-on; also killing its’ driver, a 64 year-old man from Sheffield Township.

 

New London man indicted for reckless homicide

53 year-old Trent McCullough of New London has been charged with reckless homicide along with cultivating marijuana. He was arrested in early January after accidentally shooting and killing George Ely; a friend of his. McCullough first said that Ely shot himself; before changing his story; then telling authorities that he didn’t mean to shoot Ely. A marijuana operation was found during the investigation.

 

Willard man facing numerous theft charges

A young man from Willard faces multiple charges in connection with various thefts in the last half year. 20 year-old Nicholas Hamman has been charged with burglary from an October 2016 incident, breaking and entering during early January, and receiving stolen property from a vehicle theft along with drug possession in late January.

 

Huron County health survey coming soon

 Over the next several weeks, more than 3,000 Huron County residents will be randomly selected to participate in the Huron County Health Partners survey. The anonymous survey asks questions about general health, risk and protective health factors, and access to health care. These answers will create a snapshot of the health of Huron County residents. The results will guide many public and private agencies in their program planning over the next several years by identifying key health problems.

 

Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper of the Year comes from Elyria post

Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Juan “Ray” Santiago of the Elyria Post has been selected as Trooper of the Year. Santiago is active in the non-profit organization, “Operation Open Heart”, which supports and mentors boys receiving services through Lorain County Children Services.
