Party safely this Super Bowl weekend
This is Super Bowl weekend, a time when many gather for parties involving alcohol. Sergeant Jason Demuth with the Huron County post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says if you plan to party for the big game, use common sense when headed home by choosing a designated driver, take a taxi, or get a ride home via Uber…just don’t get behind the wheel. Last year during the Super Bowl, the Patrol made 50 OVI arrests with two fatalities and 156 injuries resulting from traffic crashes. Both of the fatalities and 23 of the injuries were OVI-related.
February is American Heart Month
From the Ohio News Connection
This is American Heart Month, when Ohioans are encouraged to learn more about heart disease and make a commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Gina Henke with the American Heart Association in Cleveland says as the number one killer, cardiovascular disease is to blame for one in four deaths nationally. She suggests folks take the time to assess their own health journey…by asking themselves the following questions:
-Does that mean I need to make appointments to find out what my cholesterol and blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI are?
-Does that mean I need to do a better job of being physically active?
-Does that mean that I need to find ways to lower stress so I feel healthier and whole?
Today is ‘Wear Red Day’ to draw attention to the impact of heart disease and stroke among women.
Folks can share their red attire online with the hash tag: “go-red.” (#GoRed)
