College student among those aboard missing plane in Cleveland
A 19 year-old college freshman from Powell and her father were among six people aboard a plane that disappeared over Lake Erie late Thursday as the group was returning from a Cleveland Cavaliers game. The plane piloted by Columbus beverage distribution chief executive John Fleming, suddenly lost altitude about two miles out and vanished from radar, authorities said. Fleming’s wife and two teenage sons were also aboard. A bag that washed ashore near a private harbor in Bratenahl was confirmed as coming from the plane. Search crews continue to hunt for the aircraft.
Monroeville man seriously injured in one-vehicle crash
A Monroeville man was seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash early New Year’s Day in Huron County. 20 year-old Quentin Howell was taken by Life Flight to a Toledo Hospital after driving off the road and striking a tree, while attempting to swerve to miss an animal. It took place on Remelle Road south of Settlement Road in Peru Township. Alcohol and drugs are suspected factors in the crash.

Huron football players earned academic honor
A great achievement for the football team at Huron… The Huron High School Football program has finished in the top eight in the state for Academic All-Ohio in 2016. It’s the sixth straight year that Huron football student athletes have earned the honor from the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association. There are 716 teams in the state.
