County Commissioners accept Sheriff Howard’s retirement

The December 31st retirement of outgoing Huron County Sheriff Dane Howard has been accepted by Huron County Commissioners. During yesterday’s meeting, the Norwalk Reflector reports that commissioners accepted the retirement of Howard and appointed Sheriff-elect Todd Corbin to serve as the new sheriff, which officially begins midnight January 2nd. Back in November, the Republican Corbin defeated Democrat Howard with over 60 percent of the vote.  Corbin will be sworn in as sheriff next Wednesday.

 

Two historic buildings in Sandusky to be revitalized

The Columbus Avenue Revitalization Project in downtown Sandusky is getting a boost from the state of Ohio. The project has shagged tax-credits of more than 1-and-a-half-million-dollars to rehab two historic buildings on Columbus Avenue and East Washington. Once the work is done, the buildings will offer commercial space, office space and upstairs apartments.

 

New K9 officer introduced by Sandusky Police

The Sandusky Police Department has introduced their new K9 officer. The police dog named Onur (‘honor’) is a 3 ½ year old male from Hungary; and will soon be patrolling the streets. You can view photos of the new K9 on the Sandusky Police Department Facebook page.

 

Truck sales up in northern Ohio

SUV’s and trucks are bringing more and more people into showrooms across northern Ohio. The Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association reports; new vehicle sales for November jumped 6-percent from a year ago; thanks to those pick-up trucks and SUV’s. Your volume-leader for November was Chevrolet.

 

Holiday safety tips from Perkins Police

Perkins Township Police are reminding area residents on some safety tips during this holiday season; when consumers tend to have extra gifts and/or cash around. When you’re out shopping, keep your gifts out of sight and save your most expensive purchases for last so they’re not sitting in your car. Also keep cash to a minimum and do not flash it around; and keep your credit cards in a secure place. If you see or feel anything suspicious, call the proper authorities.

 

Cameo at the Creek today’s location for ‘Dine Out’ fundraiser

The final Norwalk Area United Fund ‘Dine Out’ fundraiser of 2016 will take place today at Cameo at the Creek in Norwalk. Just let Cameo know you’re there supporting the Norwalk United Fund and the organization will receive a percentage of their day’s revenue.  Cameo at the Creek is open tonight from 4:00 until 9:00 pm.
