Two young men from Marblehead seriously injured in crash Friday morning

The Sandusky Post of the Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that occurred around 7:30 am Friday in Danbury Township on State Route 163, just west of Channel Grove Road, which sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries.It happened when a pickup truck driven by a sixteen year-old and eighteen year-old from Marblehead struck the side of a semi truck when its’ driver was backing up while making a delivery. Devon Grosswiler and Christopher King were both taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center. Both drivers were cited.

 

Lead-affected water fixtures cleaned and back on in Norwalk schools

The Norwalk City School District is bringing their consumable water fixtures back online today; for the first time since being shut down back in August. The Norwalk Reflector reports that during the first week of December, officials said they had ‘properly cleaned’ seven fixtures with elevated lead levels. A follow-up test showed elevated lead levels in three fixtures; resulting in those being permanently removed. This information coming from a letter sent home with students last week.  Norwalk Superintendent George Fisk tells residents to call him with any questions at the District Office (419-668-2779).

 

New numbers show more Americans died from drug overdoses over the last five years.

From Westwood One News-Drug overdose deaths have increased by 33 percent in the past five years across the country, with some states seeing jumps of nearly 200 percent. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 30 states saw increases in overdose deaths resulting from the abuse of heroin and prescription painkillers, a class of drugs known as opioids. New Hampshire saw a 191 percent increase while North Dakota, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine had death rates jump by over 100 percent. Last year, more than 52,000 people died from drug overdoses, with almost two-thirds involving prescription or illegal opioids. Sixteen states saw a jump in deaths from synthetic opioids including illicit fentanyl, with New York (135.7 percent) and Connecticut (125.9 percent) the hardest hit.

 

Differences between having a cold or the flu

Huron County Public Health is reminding residents on the differences between having a cold and the flu. They say cold symptoms include a low fever or none at all with slight aches and pains compared to flu symptoms including a high fever, often severe aches and pains, and exhaustion.  A complete list of comparisons is available online at www.huroncohealth.com.
