Ex-Vermilion Police Officer convicted of assault

A former Vermilion Police Officer has been sentenced to four months behind bars. In October, Aaron Bolton was convicted of misdemeanor assault after he was accused of using excessive force during an arrest outside Rudy’s Bar and Grille on Liberty Avenue in 2015. Bolton’s attorney says to look for an appeal.

 

Huron City Schools participating in shoeboxes for the needy project

Students and their families throughout the Huron City School District are taking part in ‘Project Happy Christmas’. The project involves shoe boxes being packed with toiletries and Christmas gifts for a local child in need.  Those participating are asked to label their shoebox by gender and age and bring it back by this Thursday (December 15th).  More info is available online at www.ohgoreach.com.

 

Vermilion man continues to win on Jeopardy

Another week, another win for Tim Aten of Vermilion… Aten will return tonight on the TV show, ‘Jeopardy’, looking for his 8th consecutive victory. His 7-day total stands at more than $105,000.

 

2017 Ohio Fair schedule announced

The Ohio Department of Agriculture has released its official schedule for the 2017 fair season, including 94 county and independent fairs as well as the Ohio State Fair, which will be July 26th through August 6th. The Erie County Fair (Sandusky) will run from August 8th to 13th; while the Huron County Fair (Norwalk) takes place from August 14th to 19th. The Lorain County Fair will open August 20th.

Everything from ornaments, t-shirts, and calendars are available; along with orders being taken for the Norwalk-opoply board game.

 

Be aware of scams involving snow plow businesses

The Better Business Bureau is warning people to beware as we head into the ‘dead’ of winter. The problem; people who pay unreliable snowplow businesses in advance for work not performed as advertised, if at all. The Bureau recommends getting a written contract, insisting on references and checking with your city.

 

Be on the lookout for telephone scam involving fake call from U-S Marshall’s Office

The U-S Marshalls Office is warning residents of northern Ohio about a telephone scam. They say, someone is calling residents, claiming to be from the Marshalls Office, saying, the person-called owes money from an outstanding warrant. Again, the Marshalls Office says, this is a scam.
