Ohio State classes back in session after yesterday’s attack

Classes resume today at The Ohio State University after yesterday’s on-campus attack that put more than half-a-dozen students in the hospital. An 18 year old student from Somalia drove onto the sidewalk and struck several people, then got out and started cutting people with a butcher knife. He was shot and killed by a University Police Officer. The FBI is investigating whether the attack was an act of terrorism; based on a Facebook posting and ISIS recently telling their supporters to use cars and knives to attack Americans.

 

Wellington pedestrian struck and killed by driver

A Wellington man died early Monday evening while crossing the street near his home. 51 year-old Michael Richley was struck by a Ford Taurus driven by 30 year-old Ray Hughes of Berlin Heights as he was walking his dog across the road near his driveway on State Route 18 in Brighton Township in Lorain County. Speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.

 

Willard Police looking for information on armed robbery of Hy Miler

The Willard Police Department is looking for information on the gunpoint robbery of the Hy Miler gas station on East Tiffin Street that took place Saturday around 1:00 am. The suspect, described as a 5 foot-6 inch white male with a thin build, entered the store with a handgun and had the clerk empty the cash drawer and hand the money to him, before fleeing.  A $500 reward is being offered by Willard Police for any info that leads to an arrest or conviction of the suspect. Please call Willard PD with any information.

 

Giving Tuesday event going on today at Sandusky Mall

The United Way of Erie County and its’ 20 funded social service agencies are holding a ‘Giving Tuesday’ event today at the Sandusky Mall from 1:00 to 9:00 pm.  To give back, visit the mall today or go online to www.uwerieco.org. You can also sign up to win a $500 mall gift card with a $10 donation.

 

Bellevue Christmas Tree lighting is tonight

The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Bellevue takes place tonight. It runs from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in Central Park; featuring the official lighting at 6:30 pm along with Christmas Carols from the Bellevue High School Choir and a visit from Santa.  The Bellevue Christmas Parade is Thursday at 6:00 pm.

 

Final day of Norwalk leaf pickup

Today marks the final day of leaf pickup in Norwalk. Crews will be collecting leaves on the south side of town, or on the south side of Main Street.

 

Attorney General DeWine offers tips for ‘Giving Tuesday’

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine is offering some charitable giving tips on this “Giving Tuesday,” when donors are urged to make charitable contributions during this holiday shopping season. At the same time, scammers also compete for these contributions. To avoid potential scams, donors should: develop a giving plan, research charities, ask how your donation will be used, and watch for red flags including high-pressure tactics, and requests for checks made out to an individual (instead of a charity).

 

Gas prices up

We are paying more today, to fill up our gas tanks. Yesterday, some service stations pumped up their pump prices 20 to 30-cents-a-gallon. This coming after prices had fallen to about $1.90 a gallon at Thanksgiving.

 

It’s a good day to shop

Today might be a good day to head to the mall. Some retail studies indicate that this will be the least hectic shopping day between now and Christmas Eve.
