Sandusky woman charged with OVI and child endangerment
A Sandusky woman has been arrested for driving while intoxicated and child endangerment. 38 year-old Arminda Lopez-Velasquez was pulled over Friday evening after Norwalk Police received a call of a possible impaired driver going southbound on Whittlesey Avenue from Erie County. After being stopped, Velasquez’s three children, ages 1, 7 and 15, were located inside the vehicle. She was transported to the Huron County Jail and held on three charges of Child Endangerment; and also charged with driving without a license.
Highway Patrol reminds drivers to wear safety belts this Thanksgiving holiday
AAA predicts that nearly 49 million Americans, including over two-million Ohioans, will travel at least 50 miles from home this Thanksgiving weekend. In anticipation of increased traffic, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to buckle up, never drive impaired and always follow traffic laws. Last year during this time, nine people were killed in seven fatal crashes on Ohio’s roadways; with five of those nine fatalities being the result of an impaired driver. Troopers will be out in full force this weekend to remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.
Monroeville School District sharing savings on bonds with taxpayers
After saving over $760,000 on the refinancing of construction and improvement bonds from their elementary school project, the Monroeville School District will be sharing the savings with taxpayers over the next 30 years. Taxpayers in Monroeville will see a decrease in their real estate tax collection as early as their 2017 tax payments.
City of Norwalk and Willard leaf pick-up information
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Norwalk and Willard have some changes in their leaf pickup schedule. In Norwalk, there will be no leaf pickup this week. The final pickup will be next Monday (11/28) on the north side of town; and next Tuesday (11/29) on the south side. The Norwalk compost facility will be open this Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. In Willard, leaf pickup will take place today on the west side of Myrtle Avenue. The City of Willard asks residents to not rake leaves out after noon on Wednesday.
