Bucyrus man dies after tree-trimming crew crash on SR 13 in Huron County
A Bucyus man has died from injuries sustained in Thursday’s crash on State Route 13 near Fitchville in Huron County. 34 year-old Zachary Warner passed away Saturday morning at a Toledo hospital; after being part of a tree-trimming crew that were struck by a semi-truck. The crash remains under investigation with charges still pending for the 62 year-old truck driver from Ashland.
Sandusky High/Middle Schools closed today
Due to an electrical outage from high winds, Sandusky High School and Sandusky Middle School are closed today. Students and faculty at both schools are not to report. All other district buildings are open.
Norwalk Bicentennial Pageant to be held Tuesday
2017 marks Norwalk’s bicentennial; and to get ready for it, a Bicentennial Royalty event will be held this Tuesday night at the Norwalk VFW. One Queen and one Ambassador will be selected during the pageant from a panel of around a dozen Norwalk residents. The royalty will then represent Norwalk in 2017. Admission for the event, which starts at 6:00 pm, is one non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Miriam House. “Light-Up Norwalk”, marking the official start of bicentennial festivities, is set for this Saturday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
Edison Middle School receives state award
The Ohio State Board of Education has named Edison Middle School as a recipient of a 2016 ‘Momentum Award’, for the second year in a row. The award recognizes schools with all A’s on each measure of the Ohio School Report Card. In a letter given to the school, the state says that students at Edison Middle School have made greater than expected progress in math and reading.
Edison advances, St. Paul season over in High School Football Playoffs
Congrats to the Edison Chargers! They are back in the high school football state semi-finals for the 2nd straight season; after a come from behind win Saturday night 27-20 over Norwayne at a snowy, cold Medina High School. Edison (12-1) will now take on 9-3 Canton Central Catholic in the Division 5 state semi-finals on Saturday night at 7:00 pm at Strongsville’s Pat Catan Stadium. It’s a rematch of last year’s state semi’s, in which the Chargers lost on a last second field goal, 17-14. In a Division 7 Regional Final, St. Paul lost to Warren JFK on Saturday night in a snowstorm at Strongsville, 48-13. The Flyers end another outstanding season with a record of 12-1. K-96 will broadcast the Edison state semi-final game live Saturday night beginning at 6:30 for pre-game, 7:00 pm kickoff.
