Norwalk High School student passes away
A Norwalk High School sophomore has died from a medical condition. The Norwalk Reflector reports that 15 year-old Margaret Swanbeck passed away Wednesday at Akron Children’s Hospital after being there a number of weeks with a rash related to Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, which causes internal and external burns to one’s body. Swanbeck was an honor student and was involved in many art-related classes at Norwalk High School, as well as the choir. The Huron County School Crisis Team was made available for teachers and students throughout the day.
Possible improvements coming to area of Milan Road in Norwalk
The City of Norwalk has been informed about available funding for improvements to a section of Milan Avenue. According to information from Norwalk Mayor Rob Duncan, the funding through the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) would feature drainage and curbing updates next year for a section of Milan Avenue between League and Cline streets. The improvements are pending council approval; and would be paid for by a $50,000 OPWC grant and the remaining $227,000 will be paid out of stormwater funds. An Old State Road widening project in Norwalk will also begin next spring.
Cedar Point workers end strike
A two-day strike is over for Cedar Point workers; as union members have ratified a new contract. The Local 480 Labor Union was on the picket line Monday after voting down a contract offer from the park on two separate occasions. Cedar Point’s Tony Clark told the Sandusky Register Wednesday that the dispute has been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties, with the laborers union back to work effective Wednesday morning. The main reason behind the strike, which included 76 full-time laborers, was for better wages.
Willard leaf pickup going on this week
Leaf pickup is taking place this week in Willard. The city is scheduled to be collecting leaves on the west side of Myrtle Avenue the second half of this week; along with picking up biodegradable bags of leaves curbside. Willard residents can also bring leaves at the compost area at the Maintenance Department, from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
SUV’s and Trucks continue to dominate auto sales in northern Ohio
New numbers indicate when people walk into the showroom to buy a new vehicle, more of them are driving away in SUV’s or pick-up trucks here in northern Ohio.According to the Great Cleveland “Automobile Dealers Association”, sales of SUV’s and pick-up-trucks in October surged, while sales of cars tanked. Once again, Ford was your volume-leader.
Marine Corps birthday celebration tonight in Sandusky
The VFW Hall in Sandusky on West Perkins Avenue will be celebrating the Marine Corps’ birthday tonight at 6:00 pm. The event will feature a presentation of colors and a bagpiper; along with food and drinks to be provided. All United States Marine Corps vets are encouraged to attend. Today marks the 241st anniversary of The Marine Corps.
