Bellevue man dies in one-vehicle crash Saturday morning

A Bellevue man died Saturday morning in a one-car crash caused by a medical condition, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.It took place at 7:30 am in Perkins Township on Campbell Street just south of Bogart Road, when 65 year-old Kenneth Gerhardstein of Bellevue pulled out of a driveway where he suffered an unknown medical condition, causing his vehicle to cross over the roadway and eventually crash into two parked cars.  He passed away due to the medical condition.  Alcohol or drugs were not a factor.

 

Sandusky police involved in Stand-off Sunday

An armed Sandusky man held a woman hostage, then made threats to shoot at police during a six-hour standoff Sunday on Vine Street in Sandusky.  The Sandusky Register reports that after negotiating, 25 year-old Darvell Martin, gave himself up and was taken into custody without incident.  Martin is now being held without bond on charges of felonious assault, inducing panic, and unlawful restraint. He will stay at the Erie County jail until he’s arraigned at Sandusky Municipal Court.

 

Medina man Sentenced for leaving Deceased Infant in crib for over a Month

A Medina man begins the week in prison, for leaving the body of his 20-month-old daughter in her crib for more than a month.  34 year-old Eric Warfel has been sentenced to 3 years behind bars.

 

Two-Vehicle weekend crash claims the life of Indiana Man

A two vehicle crash on Rooot 19 in Ottawa County has left one person, dead.  John Word of Fremont Indiana was 64.  Troopers say, Word died this past weekend when he ran a stop sign on Duff- Washa Road and his mini-van was rammed by a pick-up truck that was towing a boat.

 

Bellevue Police Department looking to hire two full-time Officers

The Bellevue Civil Service Commission is now accepting applications for Full-Time Police Officer testing, with the intention of hiring two full-time officers.  Starting today, applications will be available at the Civil Service Commission Secretary Office at Bellevue City Centre (3000 Seneca Industrial Parkway) from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm or by emailing terri.sanders@cityofbellevue.com.  A $20 fee will be charged when turning in the application. The deadline to submit is July 21st by 4:00 pm.  On Saturday, July 30th a written and physical-fitness test will be given to applicants.

 

 Tuesday is “Governor’s Fish Ohio Day” on Lake Erie

 Tomorrow (7/12) is “Governor’s Fish Ohio Day” off the coast of Lake Erie near Port Clinton.  The private event will include state officials and outdoor writers with a focus on fishing and learning how to keep the lake healthy.  After the fishing concludes, a luncheon will occur featuring Ohio Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor and Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director James Zehringer.  This is the 37th year for the event.
