New Developments in 1989 Amy Mihalevic Abduction and Murder Case

 

Officials in Bay Village believe, a hand-made blanket, converted into a small curtain, and a store-bought blanket, might hold the keys to finding the person who abducted and killed 10 year-old Amy Mihalevic in 1989. The items were found in a ditch about 1-thousand feet from her body, which was found in a corn field in Ashland County.  Investigators are now convinced, based on modern-day technology, that the curtain and the blanket were used to wrap Amy’s body.

City of Norwalk asking for assistance to help fund 4th of July Fireworks

Norwalk Mayor Rob Duncan is asking for help in sponsoring the city’s fireworks display on July 4th.  Duncan says in the past the fireworks have been funded through local businesses, and this year is the same. For those businesses and individuals interested in helping with a monetary gift, checks can be dropped off at City Hall or sent to P.O. Box 872 in Norwalk.  Checks should be made payable to VFW with “fireworks” on the memo.

The fireworks will take place July 4th at the Huron County Fairgrounds at dusk.

The 4th of July parade will be at 10:30 am, and will be broadcasted live on Kool Gold 1510 AM.

Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center Progressing Nicely

Construction of Sports Force Parks at the Cedar Point Sports Center is ahead of schedule, as crews continue to build the youth sports facility located just miles across the bay from Cedar Point. The park in Sandusky is expected to open for tournament play in March of 2017.

Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center will consist of four NCAA regulation baseball fields, eight NCAA regulation soccer and lacrosse fields and eleven youth baseball and softball fields. It will also feature miniature golf, rope courses, dining, and more.  Construction on the sports park is scheduled to finish up in the fall.

 

Bellevue Community Days Festival rolls on…

Community Days Fest in Bellevue continues today and tomorrow.  Tonight’s highlights include a 5K walk/run tonight at 7:00 pm, live music at 7:30 pm, and fireworks at 10:30 pm.  On Saturday, a classic car show takes place from 8:00 am to 12 noon, with a parade at 10:00 am.

 

Comedy Benefit show to be held Sunday in Sandusky

Plum Brook Country Club Pool in Sandusky will host “The Caddyshack” Open Comedy Night benefit on Sunday night at 6:00 pm. The comedy show will raise money for The Foundation for Firelands cancer program.

The show includes two comedians; Mark Cordes with 35 years in the industry, and Cleveland-native Jason Lawhead from Last Comic Standing season nine.  Tickets for the show are $50. More info can be found at www.FoundationForFirelands.com/Golf .

NHRA Nationals being held in Norwalk this Weekend

The 10th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals continues this weekend at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park, just outside of Norwalk.  Qualifying was last night and also tonight with fireworks planned for this evening as well.  Saturday includes two rounds of pro qualifying, and then it’s “Championship Sunday” with the finals beginning at 3:35 pm. Gates will open at 7:30 am today and tomorrow, and at 8:00 am on Sunday.

EHOVE offering class to prepare Students for Specific Programs

A free “Boost Your Skills” class is now being offered at EHOVE Career Center.  The “Boost Your Skills” class will run Monday and Wednesdays, 3:30 to 5:30 pm, from July 11th through August 31st. The class is intended to help students become prepared for their preferred program at EHOVE. The class also helps students lift their levels for the Work Keys entrance exam; and those who complete the class will be given their Work Keys re-test for free.
