A head-on crash in Vermilion has claimed two lives.
A man and a woman, both 54 were killed yesterday morning on Liberty Avenue. Their names have not been released, because of difficulties notifying family members. The highway patrol is trying to establish the identity of the other driver. Troopers said the person has given conflicting information. It’s not yet known what caused the crash. Troopers continue to investigate.
An inmate at the Huron County jail will face more charges, after deputies found a pound of marijuana and $5,000 cash inside his car that was parked at the Sheriff’s Office.
The discovery was made Wednesday by the department’s K9 unit, during a random patrol of the property. The inmate—whose name hasn’t been released—is currently jailed for marijuana trafficking, with new charges pending.
A Norwalk factory is facing $44,000 in fines, for workplace safety violations.
According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Americraft Carton has been cited for seven serious infractions. After receiving a complaint of unsafe working conditions, OSHA found the paperboard packaging plant failed to use locking devices on certain machines, train employees in machine safety procedures, install safety guards on pulleys, belts and horizontal shafts, and conduct daily safety inspections of powered industrial vehicles. Americraft Carton will be able to contest the findings.
A Norwalk man will make it official tomorrow morning.
Republican Dick Stein will announce he’s seeking the GOP nomination for the 57th District seat in the Ohio House. The seat is currently held by Terry Boose, but he can’t seek re-election, due to term limits. The 57th District is made up of Huron and Lorain counties.
Ohio has set a record for child support collections.
In federal fiscal year 2015, which ended September 30th, Ohio collected 69 percent of current child support owed. The rate was higher than the national average of 64 percent. And through a partnership with the Casino Control Commission and the Ohio Lottery Commission, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services also seized nearly $2.7 million in unpaid support from jackpot winners at Ohio casinos and racinos.
The Plymouth-Shiloh Board of Education has accepted the resignation of Plymouth High School principal Amanda Mahon.
It’ll take effect December 18th. She’s leaving for a job with the Mid-Ohio Educational Services Center.
The South Central Local Schools Board of Education will meet in special session December 17th to interview applicants for an open school board seat.
The meeting will begin at 5:30pm in the board conference room at South Central High School.
