An interim superintendent has been hired in Norwalk.

The Board of Education has hired Dr. Will Folger to step in for retiring superintendent Dennis Doughty. Last night’s vote was 3-2, with board members Steve Linder and Ralph Ritzenthaler voting no. Folger previously served as superintendent of the Huron City Schools, and retired as head of the Sheffield-Sheffield Lake City Schools last December. The Norwalk school board will re-advertise the superintendent position this winter, with a goal of hiring someone by the end of the 2014-2015 school year.

 

Traffic in western Huron County was diverted late last night, after a semi-truck hauling produce overturned.

The accident occurred at 10:45 last night on State Route 4, near U.S. Route 20 in Lyme Township. The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries.

 

Erie County Deputies are investigating a possible sex offense involving two teens.

According to reports, the alleged offense involving a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl occurred last week during a summer camp at Beulah Beach.  The two initially denied any wrongdoing, but the girl later claimed the boy coerced her into sexual acts.  The investigation continues.

 

The Columbus Avenue underpass in Sandusky will be closed to all traffic between 7 and 10 this morning, for repairs.

 

It’s a chance to check out Fisher-Titus Medical Center’s new North Side Medical Office on Milan Avenue.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 4:30 this afternoon, followed by public tours until 7:30. The near-12,000 square foot building cost $2.4 million. The new building is home to Northern Ohio Foot and Ankle Specialists, Fisher-Titus Industrial Health Services, along with Convenient Care, Outpatient Laboratory Services and Physical Therapy Services.

 

Nearly 7,500 people have signed their name to an online petition demanding the rehiring of Ohio State University’s former band director.

The petition at change.org was launched three days ago in response to Jon Waters’ firing amid claims of a ‘sexualized culture’ within the marching band.  OSU band members and alumni have rushed to Waters’ defense claiming he’s being made a scapegoat for decades of band traditions.

 

Saggy pants have been banned, from this year’s Richland County Fair, which opens this Sunday.

Biker colors are prohibited as well. Fair officials said the new dress code will provide a more family-friendly atmosphere.

 

Governor John Kasich has maintained a sizable lead over his challenger.

According to the results of a new Quinnipiac University poll, the Republican incumbent leads Democrat Ed Fitzgerald, 48-36 percent.  The margin is essentially the same, compared to a previous poll.

 

A new study ranked the 100 biggest cities in the country, from most entertaining to least entertaining.

Cincinnati, Ohio came in number one.  Rankings are based on 24 different categories, including the cost of movies and pizza, the number of parks, pools and beaches and the nicest weather.  The least entertaining city in the country is Newark, New Jersey.
