Final negotiations are underway, as the search for a new Norwalk City Schools superintendent winds down.
The Board of Education met with an applicant last night, and will meet again at 7 tonight. If negotiations are successful, the man will be introduced as the new superintendent. He’s not among the original five applicants interviewed by the school board. Current superintendent Dennis Doughty is retiring this Thursday. Friday, he’ll become president of Norwalk Catholic School.

44-year-old Jason Kruki turned himself in late yesterday morning. Deputies tried to arrest Kruki Friday evening, but he slipped away from his Chenango Road home.

A cable on the giant swing ride snapped, injuring two riders. Skyhawk will remain closed, until it’s repaired, and reviewed by inspectors from the Ohio Department of Agriculture. The agency oversees all amusement park rides in the state.
A central Ohio man spent 24 hours in the waters of Lake Erie, after his kayak overturned.
34-year-old Travis Casper of Galloway, Ohio had set out from Marblehead to Kelley’s Island Sunday afternoon. But his kayak overturned, and he spent all of Sunday night and much of Monday holding on to his boat. Passing boaters pulled him in just before 5pm yesterday. Casper was taken for medical treatment.
Voters in the Sandusky school district can expect to see a new bond issue on the fall ballot.
The proposed measure, called ‘Building Better Dreams’ would fund two new buildings, and renovate others. Hancock Elementary would be torn down, and a new pre-school through 3rd grade building would be built near the current site. Ontario Elementary would be demolished, and replaced by a new fourth-thru-sixth grade building at the same site. Plans also call for transforming Mills Elementary into an adult education building, and Venice Heights Elementary into the Regional Center for Advanced Academic Studies. Science labs at Sandusky High would be renovated as well. The total cost of the project is $58 million, with the state providing $28 million. The 34-year, 3.98 mill bond issue cost the average Sandusky homeowner about $140 annually. State Route 547, near Farr Road in Monroeville will be closed for three weeks, for a culvert replacement. Former members of the Ohio State University marching band want ousted band director Jon Waters reinstated.
They protested yesterday on campus. Waters was fired last week by university officials who claim he tolerated a ‘sexualized culture’ among band members.
Dual festivals begin tomorrow in Plymouth.

At 12:01 this Friday morning, the Norwalk Truckers will punch in for the first annual ‘Third Shift Practice’ at Norwalk High School. Family, friends and fans can bring lawn chairs and family-friendly beverages and watch the first football practice of the season. The Third Shift Practice will include grilled food, music and football parents selling apparel and game jerseys. The Truckers are coming off a nine-win season and the school’s first playoff appearance since 1974.
