There were 32 new reported cases in Huron County on Monday.

Huron County Public Health has released their latest COVID weekly update.
The latest reporting period (December 17th to 23rd) reached a record high for Huron County at 400 cases in a single week, an increase from 316 for the previous reporting period.
The average age of cases for this reporting period slightly decreased from 41 to 39, with the highest number of cases for this week reported in the 31 to 40 age group.
All Huron County zip codes reported cases during the reporting period with the highest infection rate in the New London zip code.

The CDC has announced that it’s shortening the recommended time for isolation from 10 days for people with COVID-19 to 5 days, if showing no symptoms.
The same goes for those who are exposed to the virus, vaccinated or not.

Friday, Lorain County Health and Dentistry on Broadway in Lorain will offer a free, drive-thru COVID testing event.
First come, first served…no pre-registration.
It’ll run from 7:30 until 11 Friday morning.

The Huron County Community Foundation is now accepting Round One grant applications for 2022.
According to Norwalk Ohio News.com, the grants that likely range from $500 to $5,000, are awarded to organizations and non-profits that look to improve the lives of those in Huron County.
The deadline to submit an app is February 15th.

Accolades for a pair of Norwalk St. Paul cheerleaders…
According to the Norwalk Reflector, senior Julianne Colvin and sophomore Kat Rospert have been chosen to cheer at events surrounding this year’s Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida, which features Iowa versus Kentucky on New Year’s Day.
They were selected after qualifying during a cheer camp last summer.

Statistics released show fewer motorists were killed on Ohio’s roadways this Christmas holiday, as compared to the 3 previous years.
During the four-day reporting period, from this past Thursday to Sunday, 7 people were killed in 7 fatal crashes, compared to 9 in 2020 and 12 in 2019.
Troopers removed over 150 impaired drivers from Ohio’s roads during the holiday, which is an increase of nearly 12 percent compared to last year.

Lorain County Sheriff Phil Stammitti has been elected by fellow sheriffs across the state, to serve as President of the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association for 2022.
The association was founded in 1931 and works with state lawmakers on criminal justice issues.
