Checking COVID numbers…

Statewide, 7,600 cases were reported on Sunday, just under the 21-day rolling average of 8,000.

Huron County saw 32 new cases on Sunday.

COVID cases are surging nationwide…more than 100-thousand new cases everyday…more than 11-hundred new deaths every day.

Governor Mike DeWine has mobilized just over one-thousand members of the Ohio National Guard to help relieve the hospital staffing strain caused by the rising number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients.  

They go on duty starting today, and will help with various activities needed by medical facilities and testing sites.

The Erie County Health Department has announced that they’ll be hosting a family COVID-19 vaccine clinic later this month. 

It will take place December 29th from 8 am to 5 pm, and will offer vaccines for family members age 5 and older as well as boosters for those 16 and older.

Give the health department a call to schedule an appointment.

COVID-19 is having a major effect on the sports world in Ohio.  

The Cleveland Cavaliers currently have an outbreak, with their game last night in Atlanta postponed.

The Cleveland Browns are playing today at 5 pm after their game on Saturday was postponed due to a rash of COVID cases.

And the Ohio State Buckeyes basketball team had their game on Saturday and their game this Tuesday canceled due to COVID issues on the team.

A student in the Elyria City Schools has been charged by police, with inducing panic.

The charge came after the student was accused of threatening to bring a gun to Eastern Heights Middle School this past Friday…

In Medina County…

Two more suspects in the death of an Akron man are scheduled for sentencing today.

27-year old-Iron Cannon was last seen in Wadsworth in October of 2020.

His remains were found in the Youngstown area, nearly one year later.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced, they will return this week to finish repairs to the Liberty Avenue bridge in Vermilion.

Vermilion Schools have named their new superintendent. 

According to the Sandusky Register and Newark Advocate, its Licking Valley Schools superintendent David Hile, who had a 5-year contract approved by the Vermilion School Board.

Hile will take over for the current Vermilion leader, Phil Pempin, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

A several-year member of the Huron County Developmental Council has announced her retirement.

According to Norwalk Ohio News.com, Executive Director Carol Knapp will retire at the end of the year.

Knapp, who joined the HCDC in 2011, said she was submitting her letter of resignation…with mixed emotions.

In Elyria, Uncle Bo’s Slow and Low is a no go.

The restaurant closed yesterday, and owner Bo Granger announced on social media, he hopes to re-open in 2022 when the economy settles down.

He cited soaring inflation, supply shortages other issues.
