It’s June 2nd… which means that the statewide COVID-19 public health orders that required masks and social distancing, expired overnight.

Capacity restrictions at both indoor and outdoor settings have also been lifted.

In Huron County COVID-19 figures…

There was 1 new reported case on Monday.

Updated data on the Lorain County Public Health website shows that two more people in Lorain County have died from COVID-19…one man and one woman, one in their 70s and the other at least 80 or older.

That brings the local death toll to 440.

There was a significant drop in fatalities during Memorial Day weekend, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.  

There were a reported 9 deaths on Ohio’s roadways…fewer fatalities than last year, when there were 20 traffic deaths during the weekend.

When compared to the previous 3-year average, the number of fatalities dropped by 49 percent this year.

The Memorial Day weekend reporting period consisted of Friday through Monday.

A community forum will be held this week to educate people on domestic violence and raise awareness over the issues.

Genesis House Domestic Violence Center of Lorain County is hosting the event this Friday from 1:30 to 4 pm at the Spitzer Conference Center at Lorain County Community College.

26 year old Zayanna Chapman of Elyria has been charged with drunken driving after striking 26-year-old motorcyclist Cory Box.

Chapman failed to yield and crashed into Box, then failed field sobriety tests from police and refused a blood alcohol test.

Box was flown to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center with incapacitating injuries.

As the Huron County Commissioners prepare to sell the old county jail in Norwalk, a paranormal group asked if they could have a look inside to investigate. 

The Norwalk Reflector reports that the answer to the Ohio Paranormal Group was “no”, as there could be a liability with someone going inside the building next to the courthouse on Benedict Avenue.

The old jail was built in 1887 and named a national historic district in 1974.

A roof collapsed at a Sandusky plaza on Tuesday evening. 

According to the Sandusky Register, no one was one inside the Health & Strength Gym on Route 6 when the incident occured.

The official cause of the collapse is not yet known.

The Lorain County Commissioners have approved an 815 thousand dollar Community Development Block Grant Application to Ohio Development Services Agency.

It will benefit infrastructure projects in Sheffield Lake, Sheffield Township, and Kipton as well as meal delivery and fair housing programs.

Some traffic notes for Sandusky County…

Road work is set to be underway on Route 20 eastbound to the Route 6 and Route 20 Fremont bypass…closing that area for approximately 60 days.

Then, in Green Springs, Route 19, between Academy Street and Maple Lane, is also lined up for construction…closing that section for around 90 days.

The Cleveland Indians defeated the Chicago White Sox 6-5 on Tuesday night.  The 2 teams are set to wrap up their 4-game series this afternoon at Progressive Field at 1:10 pm.
