In Huron County COVID-19 numbers…

4 new cases were reported on Thursday, with no new fatalities.

The death toll remains at 120.

After being cancelled earlier this week, the Norwalk City School Board has scheduled a special board meeting for Tuesday, regarding COVID-19 mandates. 

The meeting will focus on the removal of previous COVID-19 protocols, as of June 2nd.

Religious and community leaders in Lorain are calling for an end to gun violence.

Yesterday, they called a news conference in hopes of getting their message to young people.

There have been 6 homicides in Lorain since March.

Amtrak has made a proposal to broaden rail service throughout Ohio.

According to the Sandusky Register, Amtrak wants to bring passenger train service that would connect Cleveland to Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati and cities between those.

The proposal also would include upgrading the current Lake Erie Shoreline service that Sandusky is a part of.

The next step….for Congress to provide funding for the proposal.

Norwalk court numbers for 2020 have been released.

The Norwalk Reflector reports that Norwalk Muni Court handled less than 50 percent of what they filed in both 2019 and 2018.

…This likely due to COVID-19

Muni Court deals in criminal and traffic misdemeanors; as well as initial and preliminary hearings for felony cases.

The Wellington School System is in the market for two principles.

Wellington High School principle Tina Drake and McCormick Middle School principle Nathan Baxendale are moving on, taking jobs outside of Lorain County.

The 2021 boating season is here, and the U-S Coast Guard has announced, they will open the Coast Guard Station in Lorain one week from today.

It’ll remain open through Labor Day…with crews responding to issues on the water from Vermilion to Avon Lake.

With temps forecasted around 90 this weekend, the City of Sandusky is offering a way to cool down.

The splash pads at both Huron and Lions Parks will be up and running, as of this afternoon.

The city says that the portable splash pad at Churchwell/MacArthur Park will be installed in the near future.

Amherst Mayor Mark Costilow says, upgrades are needed to improve traffic flow at the rapidly-developing interchange at Route 2 and Oak Point Road.

According to the Chronicle Telegram, one option to cover the cost is to create a so-called “Tax Increment Financing District”.

Discussions are underway in Lorain, to bring new, affordable housing to the former Stoveworks site on West 12th near downtown Lorain.

According to the Chronicle Telegram, the city of Lorain is working to secure a grant from the USEPA, to clean up the Brownfield site, in hopes of having the homes built in several years.

State Attorney General Dave Yost is now accepting applications for the Teen Ambassador Board. 

The board consists of Ohio high school juniors and seniors; with a mission to provide Ohio’s future leaders with an inside look at state law and government.

Students who’ll be junior and seniors during next school year are eligible; with applications located on the Ohio Attorney General’s website.

The deadline to apply is June 25th.

Elyria Mayor Frank Whitfield is asking for volunteers, to help refurbish donated bicycles.

Last week, more than 300 bikes were donated to the city during the 2nd annual Bike Donation Drive, in partnership with the Elyria Bicycle Education Center.

Two volunteer sessions will be held; tomorrow from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the West Park Garage on Foster Avenue…and Saturday May 29th.
