In area COVID-19 numbers…

Erie County reported 253 new cases on Wednesday, with the death toll remaining at 76.

According to Norwalk Ohio News.com, Huron County had 3 new COVID-19 deaths reported Wednesday, for a total that’s apparently 26, along with 44 reported cases.

Lorain County Public Health is reporting 110 deaths from the Corona Virus…up from 96 the previous day.  88 of those 110 represent residents who were at least 70 years of age.

COVID-19 cases are surging among those who WORK in state prisons…

…the Ohio Department of Health reporting 29-hundred cases so far…with nearly half of those in the past month.

Every week or so, the Ohio Department of Health updates its COVID 19 dashboard to include new cases at individual nursing homes and extended care facilities.

They do NOT post the number of deaths…citing ‘privacy’ concerns.

Now, O-D-H is asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a Cincinnati TV station that has been trying to get those numbers since June.

The state says, they simply don’t have the information.

The Lorain City Schools have suspended winter sports until at least January 3rd due to a spike in COVID-19 cases, countywide.

The City of Norwalk has three projects in the works, totaling around $15 million.

The Norwalk Reflector reports that the projects include upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant, as well as two combined sewer projects on Cline and Washington Streets.

Facebook is being sued.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has joined 48 attorneys general in filing a lawsuit against Facebook, alleging that the company harms the public by illegally stifling competition to protect its monopoly power.

There could be slowdowns tonight and tomorrow, on Route 2 westbound…

…with traffic going down to one lane from Route 58 to Oak Point Road during road repairs.

Work is scheduled to begin tonight at 7:00 and wrap up tomorrow afternoon.

A road construction project is set to take place next week in Huron County…

Route 99, between Meadowview Road and Maple Ridge Road, will close Monday for bridge repairs.

It’s expected to be complete by Christmas.

A man from Lorain faces charges…accused of stealing 6 Roomba Robot Vacuums from Wal-Mart in Elyria…then coming back later the same day, to steal a piece of jewelry.

The merchandise was valued at about 18-hundred-dollars.

Police say, surveillance video from the morning and afternoon shows the same suspect, wearing the same clothing, with the same car.

A Fremont State Patrol trooper has been recognized for her hard work and dedication.

Trooper Allison Young has received the Fremont Exchange Club First Responder of the Year award.

In addition to her commitment to OVI enforcement, she made 12 felony drug arrests during the year, also receiving the Patrol’s Criminal Patrol honor.

Triple-A is reminding drivers, to properly secure Christmas trees to their vehicles.

They say, trees…that fell off cars and SUVs…result in about 50-thousand crashes nationwide each year.

SPORTS

-In high school sports news, a pair of Norwalk players have been recognized in the state’s All-Ohio football teams for Division 3, released Wednesday…Kicker Garrison Smith and receiver/kick returner Ethan Phillips both were named to the First Team.

-In college football news, Ohio State will play in the Big Ten Championship Game next Saturday versus Northwestern.  The conference decided yesterday to waive the requirement of 6 games played, as Ohio State has only played 5 games.

-In baseball, three Cleveland Indians have been named to the All-MLB Teams.  Starting pitcher Shane Bieber has been selected for the First Team, while third baseman Jose Ramirez and relief pitcher Brad Hand were chosen for the Second Team.
