No one was injured, when a semi-truck hit a van hauling a boat.
It happened late yesterday morning, on State Route 2, near Ohio 61 in Berlin Township. According to reports, the van was traveling at a low rate of speed, when the rig slammed into it from behind. Some of the road was closed for a few hours, while troopers cleared the scene.
An update, on two badly decomposed bodies found in Huron Township.
Autopsies were delayed until today, and deputies believe they’ve found a relative, out of state. The two bodies were discovered Saturday, inside a Beachwood Villas townhome. According to Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth, it’s believe to be a mother and son. The woman was in her 80’s, and the male, in his 60’s. There were no signs of foul play, but deputies continue to investigate possible causes of death.
Sandusky police continue to investigate an early Sunday morning shooting, at Geno’s Party Center, an after-hours club on Cleveland Road.
Seven people were shot, but none suffered life-threatening injuries. One man, from Lorain was severely beaten. He remains in the hospital. No arrests have been made yet.
In related news, Geno’s Party Center is no more.
Sandusky officials yesterday shut down the club for good, and the landlord evicted the owner.
A Huron County Grand Jury has charged a Mansfield man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Willard girl.
43-year-old William Moore is facing two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and tampering with evidence. The charges are tied to alleged incidents in February and March. Moore is scheduled to stand trial July 8th.
The investigation is underway into a fourth possible case of E. coli in northwest Ohio.
So far, three people have been sickened by contaminated ground beef. The Detroit-based Wolverine Packing Company has recalled nearly two-million-pounds of ground beef sold for restaurant use in four states, including Ohio.
Hundreds of students will be honored this Friday, during EHOVE Career Center’s annual Senior Recognition ceremony, at the Sandusky State Theatre.
Due to a large number of students and family members, two separate ceremonies have been planned. Session one will begin at 8:30am, and the second, at 11am.
A mixed bag in terms of area jobless rates.
According to new figures from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Huron County’s unemployment rate dropped 2.5 percent last month, to 7.9 percent. That’s still well above the statewide average of 5.7 percent, and it’s the fifth highest in Ohio. Erie County’s April unemployment rate came down to 5.4 percent. Seneca, Sandusky and Ashland Counties had jobless rates under the state average. Unemployment in Lorain, Richland and Crawford Counties was above Ohio’s average.
Cedar Point has announced plans to honor military personnel, during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend.
All active, retired and honorably-discharged members of the U.S. Armed Forces will receive free admission into Cedar Point, Friday through Monday, with a valid military ID. Family members will receive special discounted tickets.

Triple-A says more than one-point-three-million Ohioans will travel 50 miles or more from home this year, the most since before the recession. The auto club says an improving economy and families suffering from cabin fever after the long winter are driving the increase.
