Cedar Point has 2 new family fun rides ready to delight during the 2014 season.

The park unveiled the new Pipe Scream and Lake Erie Eagles rides as part of their annual media day, held Thursday afternoon. The Lake Erie Eagles allows riders to control the angel of their flight while the cars swing around. The Pipe Scream is a skateboard like passenger carriage that spins while moving back and forth over a track that resembles a half pipe. Both rides, intended for families to enjoy, will be open to the public Saturday. Cedar Point’s gates open for the regular season at 10:00am

 

US Coast Guard crews had discovered the body of a missing boater.

33 year old Andrew Rose was found floating offshore, not far from the capsized boat that was found last month. The other 3 passengers bodies have all been found since the April 17 discovery of the vessel. Authorities are still unsure of what caused the accident.

 

The Erie county community foundation has given out over $100,000 in grant money to local non-profit organizations.

31 organizations received the grants including youth services, social services, environmental, and arts and humanities.

 

A portion of route 6 near 269 was closed for several hours Thursday evening due to an overturned tractor-trailer.

The truck was hauling scrap metal when it overturned on a curve. The Lorain county driver of the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

 

According to a new report, Ohio continues to lead the country in metal thefts.

1, 446 insurance claims were made last year, this coming from the National Insurance Crime Bureau report. The state reported 4,000 claims from 2011 – 2013 from homes and businesses, nearly all of them copper thefts. The number of claims from Ohio makes up 11 percent of the national total. Ohio’s numbers continue to increase, while the nation’s decline.

 

Two Norwalk police officers have been cleared of any wrongdoing after a recent incident at the Rustic Hills mobile home park.

Norwalk Police Sargents Jim Fulton and Seth Fry were accused of menacing and unlawful constraint after their unmarked police vehicle was backed into by Jessica Rothgeb, who was found to be driving under suspension. Rothgeb claimed unlawful restraint at the hands of the Norwalk police because she wasn’t immediately able to retrieve her children from the bus stop. Huron County Prosecutor Russell Leffler reviewed the complaint and wrote the only charge warranted in this situation was the driving under suspension which was issued to Rothgeb upon detectives responding to the accident.
