Voter turnout in Erie County was 18 percent. It was 17.5 percent in Huron County.
The Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Norwalk Police Department are teaming up, to welcome Huron County residents to “Can the Cruiser”, for the annual ‘Operation Feed’ event.
Troopers and officers will be standing by at Norwalk’s Wal-Mart between 10 and 2 this Saturday, waiting for people to help stuff cruisers with non-perishable food items.
Huron County has the state’s fourth-highest unemployment rate.
According to the most recent data released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Huron County had a 10.4 percent unemployment rate in March. Of the estimated 25,800 people in the county’s workforce, about 2,700 are out of work. The current rate, ranking fourth among Ohio’s 88 counties, is still lower than the 11.5 percent mark posted just a month earlier and the 12.4 percent mark from 1 year ago.
A hospital aide at the Ohio Veterans Home was arrested Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a patient last week.
49 year old Gene Beese was charged with one count of patient abuse, a fourth degree felony. The victim, a World War II veteran, became agitated on the morning of May 2. Beese began assisting the man, then allegedly struck the man’s chest with his forearm nearly knocking him out of his wheelchair. The two men then spat at each other. Beese was arrested and taken to the Erie County jail. He has been placed on unpaid leave pending an administrative investigation.
Authorities have identified the body of missing boater Bryan Huff.
A Carroll Township family found Huff’s body washed ashore Tuesday evening. Huff was part of a group of 4 boaters that went missing during a fishing trip on April 16. The bodies of two of the boaters, Amy Santus and Paige Widmer, were found April 17th. The fourth, 33 year old Andrew Rose remains missing.
Two Ottawa County lakefront state parks have received grant money for repairs.
State Representative Chris Redfern secured $150,000 in state funds for upgrades to East Harbor State Park and the Marblehead Lighthouse State Park Keepers House. The Marblehead lighthouse will receive external repairs, while East Harbor will have updated electrical systems at the camp store, and a new floating courtesy dock will be installed.
A Sandusky County grand jury has opted not to indict drivers involved in the deadly March 12 crash on the Ohio Turnpike.
The jurors decided not to indict 68 year old Roger Dwayne Robb of Indiana and 46 year old Isic Tahir of Illinois on charges of vehicular homicide for their roles in the deaths of 3 other motorists. State Highway Patrol Trooper Andrew Clouser, who was injured in the crash says he’s surprised no one was indicted. He also stated that it’s the opinion of the people, and he respects the decision.
