The results are in, from yesterday’s primary election…

By a 61-to-39 percent margin, voters approved the Norwalk City Schools ‘five-for-five’ levy. 1,758 voters cast ‘yes’ ballots, compared to 1,129 who voted no.

Voters in the Willard school district approved a five-year, 5.4 mill renewal.

55 percent voted yes. Also passing, in Huron and Lorain counties: the Wellington Schools’ renewal. 70 percent of Sandusky school voters approved a five-year, 3.2 mill renewal. It was a different story in the Perkins School District, where 58 percent of voters rejected a 10-year, 3.9 mill levy. It was the fourth time in a year that Perkins voters said no to new money for schools.

Checking other results…

Erie County voters approved new money for Erie Metroparks. 53 percent cast yes ballots for the .6 mill replacement levy. Voters also approved levies in Castalia and Margaretta Township. Wakeman village voters agreed to renew a one-percent income tax, and 85 percent of voters in the Tri-Community Ambulance District okayed a three-quarter mill renewal.

Two changes, in the city of Norwalk.

71 percent of registered voters approved a charter amendment that extends city council terms from two to four years. It also staggers at-large and ward seats. 82 percent of Norwalk City voters approved a change to the selection process for police and fire chiefs. The charter amendment allows officials to look outside, if absolutely necessary.

Incumbent Huron County Commissioner Joe Hintz won his primary race.

The Republican from Norwalk defeated challenger Bob Morgan of North Fairfield by 46 votes, 1,502 to 1,456. Hintz will face Democrat Dennis Stieber of Norwalk in November.

Other results of interest…

State Issue 1, for roads and bridges passed, as did Cuyahoga County’s ‘sin tax.’ As expected, Democrat Ed Fitzgerald won his primary race, and will square off against incumbent Republican governor John Kasich this fall. Longtime Congressman Marcy Kaptur will face Cleveland’s Richard May this fall. May easily beat Robert Horrocks Jr., in yesterday’s Republican primary.

A body found in Lake Erie in Ottawa County is believed to be one of two missing boaters.

The body was recovered yesterday and was sent to Lucas County for identification and an autopsy.  Four boaters drowned in mid-April after a fishing trip.  Two of the bodies were recovered the next day.

A Greenwich man was flown to Akron General Hospital after suffering serious injuries in a scooter accident near Shiloh.

The Highway Patrol said 51-year-old Lester Murphy failed to negotiate a curve on State Route 603 and was thrown from the scooter.  He wasn’t wearing a helmet.
