It’s Columbus Day…

Many government offices are closed, along with many banks.

Also, no mail delivery today.

Information has been released from two house fires that occurred in Norwalk over the last week…

The Norwalk Reflector reports that everyone was safe following a blaze last Wednesday on Parsons Street that caused about $75,000 in damage.  Fire officials say the fire likely started due to an issue in a pipe that led to a downstairs fireplace.

Also…no one was hurt…but significant damage was done to a family of four’s home on Norwood Avenue Saturday night.

Norwalk Fire Captain Rick Perry tells the Norwalk Reflector that he believes the blaze began in the attic of the house…with at least $100,000 in destruction done. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

 

A Huron man faces up to five years behind bars in connection with multiple felonies across two counties. 

According to the Sandusky Register, 28-year-old Logan Woodburn pled guilty to attempted assault and heroin possession in Erie County after he allegedly pushed a Perkins Police officer in April of 2018.

Woodburn also allegedly was involved in a vehicle chase with Sheriff’s Deputies in Ottawa County last February. 

 

The Mental Health, Addiction and Recovery Services Board of Lorain County is expanding the student-led “You Belong” program from 10 middle schools to 14.

“You Belong” was developed 5 years ago…to promote a positive school culture and reduce mental health symptoms.

 

Two significant donations have been made to Norwalk’s Whitney Field Improvement Committee.

Both coming from the two school’s athletic boosters who share the athletic facility…prior to their team’s home football games over the weekend.

$300,000 from Norwalk City Schools…and $100,000 from St. Paul…with the money going to improvements that include a new turf surface for the playing field and an all-new track. 

 

Another road work project begins today in Huron County…

The Ohio Department of Transportation says that State Route 269, between East County Road 32 and Seel Road, south of Bellevue, is closing for a culvert replacement.

The project is expected to be completed on November 10th.
