The City of Norwalk says they’ll be conducting an additional mid-month siren check this afternoon…
It will take place at 12 noon…and is for maintenance purposes only.
Extreme heat is on the way, says the National Weather Service.
They’ve issued an “Excessive Heat Watch” that goes in effect Friday afternoon through Saturday evening.
Expect heat indexes ranging from around 105 to as high as 112 degrees.
Two people have been sentenced in Huron County Common Pleas Court for unrelated crimes…
The Norwalk Reflector reports that 46-year-old Timothy Moncrief of Norwalk faces three years of community control and six additional months of county jail time…for fifth degree felony importuning. Moncrief must register as a Tier 1 sex offender for 15 years and was ordered to have no contact with juveniles.
Also…31-year-old Danielle Brown of Columbus has been sentenced to three years of community control and 90 days in the Huron County Jail; along with being banned from VFW Post 3430 in Willard. She was recently found guilty of breaking and entering.
The City of Vermilion has planned a public hearing in September concerning medical marijuana zoning.
The city says the September 23rd meeting at the Vermilion Complex will not cover the legalization of marijuana or recreational use; but is intended to gather information on whether zoning should be allowed for the growth and/or distribution of marijuana for medical purposes only.
No voting will take place during the hearing.
Cedar Point officials have issued a warning about a free ticket scam going around Facebook and social media.
They say the post offering four free tickets is a scam…and that if there are any promotions from the park; they’ll post it on their official social channels or a reputable partner.
The Benton-Carroll-Salem School District is dropping an administrative position that will save them around $100,000.
According to the Sandusky Register, they will not rehire for the director of administration services job following Keith Thorbauhn’s resignation last school year.
That position will be divided between other administrators.
The district has plans to make multiple cuts and raise certain fees next school year; in connection with recent annual losses of $6 million due to the nearby Davis-Besse nuclear power plant’s devaluation and a decline in state funding.
A five-year, 3.9 mill, emergency operating levy for the district will be on the ballot August 6th.
The Sidney Frohman Planetarium’s ‘Summer Nights’ series at Sandusky High School gets underway tonight…
The program starting at 7:00 pm will focus on NASA’s journey to Mars and finding water on the moon; and will provide a look into the current night sky.
Another program is also planned for next Wednesday the 24th.
