Ottawa County/Pharmacy robbery accomplice has prison sentenced upheld

A prison sentence has been upheld by a state court for an Ottawa County man’s involvement in an armed robbery of a hospital pharmacy.

According to the Sandusky Register, 47-year-old Clark Sams Senior was appealing his nine-year sentence for complicity to aggravated robbery…claiming that it was excessive and that treatment would’ve been a better option.

Sams reportedly was the getaway driver for Joshua Trapp; who aimed a gun at Magruder Hospital pharmacy workers in Port Clinton last year…stealing several pain pills.

Trapp is currently serving 10 years after pleading guilty to armed robbery.

 

Lorain County/Wellington train derailment

The clean-up continues into Wellington, in the wake of yesterday morning’s CSX train derailment.

2 engines and 22 rail cars jumped the tracks near Magyar Street.

No one was hurt, but several roads were shut down for several hours.

No official word yet from CSX, regarding a possible cause for yesterday’s derailment…

 

State News/Governor DeWine declares State of Emergency in three counties

Governor Mike DeWine has declared a state of emergency in three western Ohio counties that suffered serious damage following severe weather earlier this week.

The emergency proclamation will allow state agencies to provide resources and support beyond their normal authority.

One death has been attributed to the storms that spawned multiple tornadoes near Dayton.

 

State News/Memorial Day weekend traffic statistics

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says 12 deaths occurred on Ohio’s roadways during this past Memorial Day weekend (Friday through Monday)…down from 18 lives lost a year ago.

Three of this year’s fatalities were the result of not wearing a safety belt when available, two were pedestrians, one was OVI-related and one was not wearing a helmet.

Year to date, there have been close to 400 confirmed fatalities on Ohio’s roads…a 1 percent increase over the same time last year.

 

Huron County/New London Schools levy

The New London School District board of education has approved a resolution to start the process of placing an improvement levy on the ballot in November.

The Norwalk Reflector reports that the levy is 2.9-mill and for five years…comparable to a levy that was declined by voters last November.

 

Huron County/U.S. 250 closure

Road closure today only in Huron County…

U.S. 250 just north of Omega Road, at the bridges over the railroad tracks and the Vermillion River, is shutting down for bridge repairs.

The road is expected to reopen later today.

 

Erie County/Coffee with a Cop

Sandusky and Perkins police departments are co-hosting a ‘Coffee with a Cop’ event tomorrow morning.

Residents are invited for coffee and conversation with law enforcement at Berardi’s Restaurant in Sandusky on Thursday from 9 to 10 am.
