State News/Tornadoes in Dayton
What’s believed to be a line of tornadoes ripped through the Dayton area and other parts of southern Ohio during the overnight hours.
One death has been attributed to the storms.
Debris from the storm was so substantial that plow trucks were used to move it from the roadways.
Five million people in Ohio were reportedly without power as of this morning.
Sandusky County/Motorcycle crash and arrest
The Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office says they charged a motorcycle driver with multiple offenses early Saturday following a pursuit.
Authorities say the cycle driver passed them going 115 miles-per-hour on U.S. 6 near County Road 268; where a sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop them.
The driver ended up crashing his bike in the vicinity of U.S. 6 and U.S. 20; and was charged with OVI, fleeing and eluding, failure to control and speeding.
Milan/Former fiscal officer owes close to $3,000 says state audit
A recently released state audit shows that former Milan fiscal officer Mary Bruno overpaid herself by about $3,000.
The Norwalk Reflector reports that a Milan attorney looks to collect that money from Bruno; who was fired in 2017 after being suspended for wrongdoings regarding village finances.
Bruno currently has a federal lawsuit against the village that claims she was fired unjustly while she was sick with cancer and had to take care of additional duties that other officials were unable to handle.
Huron County/Road work
Road work fires up today in Huron County…
The county engineer’s office says that resurfacing will start on Hasbrock, New State and Ridge Roads…along with a section of Norwood Avenue in Norwalk – from the overpass to Shady Lane Drive.
Look for lane closures in those areas.
Local News/Latest unemployment numbers
The latest state unemployment figures show somewhat of a decrease throughout the area…
According to the Sandusky Register, Erie County dropped from 5.6 percent a month ago to 4.3.
Sandusky County checked in at 3.5 percent, falling from 4.4.
Ottawa County took a big drop from 7.3 percent to 4.8…but still remains as the 10th highest statewide.
Huron County remained steady at 4.2 percent.
State News/Charging stations open
Charging stations for electric vehicles are officially open, at two service plazas along the Ohio Turnpike in western Ohio, and two more will open soon.
They’re operated by “Electrify America”, a company that plans on having more than 500 charging stations nationwide, by the end of this year.
Huron County/Firefighter participating in cancer fundraising bike ride
Norwalk firefighter Michael Frado is set to peddle hard for a good cause.
Frado is partaking in the Cleveland Clinic Velasano bike race in July, where he’ll go on a 100-mile trek to raise funds for cancer research.
He’s already closing in on his goal of raising $1,500.
State News/Free admission to military families at Ohio museums
This summer, 50-plus Ohio museums are offering free admission to military members and their family…as part of the Blue Star Museums Program.

Erie County: Edison Birthplace Museum in Milan, Follett House Museum in Sandusky
Sandusky County: Hayes Presidential Library and Museum
Lorain County: Historical Society in Elyria and Lorain, Oberlin Heritage Center
The free admission runs through Labor Day.
