State News/Ashland serial killer says he killed two more women

An Ashland man already convicted of two murders and sentenced to the death penalty…has admitted to killing two more women.

Multiple media outlets report that Shawn Grate, who previously confessed to the murders of Greenwich’s Stacey Stanley and Elizabeth Griffith of Ashland, said Friday during a change-of-plea hearing in Richland County, that he took the lives of two other women, Candice Cunningham and Rebekah Leicy, both from Richland County.

 

Sandusky County/Fremont school threat

There will be an increased police presence today throughout the Fremont City School District.

This comes after authorities say they were made aware of a violent gun threat and racial slur that was posted on social media.

 

Huron County/State Patrol investigating serious injury crash

Three people were seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in Huron County.

According to the State Highway Patrol, 41-year-old Heather Long of Brunswick ran a stop sign at the intersection of U-S 20 and Hartland Center Road, where she pulled into the path of another vehicle and was struck in the passenger side.

Those hurt in the crash…the driver of the other vehicle, 61-year-old Reinaldo Garcia and passenger, 60-year-old Celia Ricardo, both of Willard as well as Long.

 

Huron County/Willard man to prison

A Willard man has been sentenced to three years in prison for aggravated vehicular assault.

The Norwalk Reflector reports that 31-year-old Brandon Hanson accepted a plea deal…where a count each of OVI and heroin possession was dismissed.

Hanson also faces a five-year driver’s license suspension and has to pay back over $11,000 in restitution…in connection with an incident last October.

 

State News/Attorney General issues Concealed Carry Report

Over 168,000 concealed carry licenses were issued in Ohio in 2018; according to State Attorney General Dave Yost’s annual report released Friday.

Out of those, nearly 70,000 were new licenses and 98,000 were renewals.

 

Huron County/Troopers to focus on ‘intersection related violations’

Crashes caused by intersection related violations have accounted for 23-percent of the total crashes in 2019.

The State Highway Patrol says stop sign and other failure to yield violations will be a focus of enforcement this month.

Troopers from the Norwalk Post will maintain high visibility at the following intersections, where they’ll use strict enforcement of failure to yield violations, as well as other crash causing violations:

U-S 20 at State Route 601…..State Route 18 at State Route 601

State Route 103 at State Route 598…..State Route 4 at State Route 113

U-S 20 at Hartland Center Road…..State Route 18 at Hartland Center Road

 

Ottawa County/Serious injury crash

Authorities say alcohol appears to be a factor in a crash Friday night in Catawba Island Township that left a 64-year-old man seriously injured.

Gerard Loftus of Broadview was a passenger in a vehicle that failed to negotiate a curve on State Route 53, just north of State Route 163, which struck several hundred feet of guardrail.

 

Erie-Ottawa County/Active Shooter Civilian Response Training

The Erie and Ottawa County Sheriff’s Offices will be presenting training sessions this Thursday on what to do in an active shooter situation.

Two options are available to attend the “Active Shooter Response Training” event…

…A morning session in Sandusky at Castaway Bay and in the afternoon at the Holiday Inn Express in Port Clinton.

Those wishing to attend can pre-register now with Lake Erie Shores & Islands for $10 or register the day of the event for $20.
