A Wind Advisory in effect through 10:00 this morning…with winds between 25 to 30 miles-per-hour and gusts up to 50 miles-per-hour.

Be on the lookout for downed tree limbs and power lines.

 

Erie County/Man pleads not guilty in house explosion crash

An Erie County Grand Jury will now consider possible charges against the man accused of causing a house explosion in Vermilion Township.

Yesterday, 56 year-old Kenneth Karnow pled ‘not guilty’ to several charges.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says, Karnow lost control of an SUV January 31st and struck a house on Darrow Road.

The impact broke a gas line, and the house exploded a short time later.

Two residents got out safely, but the house was a total loss.

 

Erie-Ottawa Counties/Accidents

A couple of car crashes took place amid the foggy and rainy conditions Thursday afternoon.

The Edison Bridge was closed in both directions as the Highway Patrol cleaned up a multiple car crash.

Traffic was re-routed at the intersection of Bogart Road and U.S 250 in Perkins Township due to an accident.

No report of any serious injuries.

 

Erie-Huron County/Texting the likely cause of crash

An Erie County road was closed for roughly 12 hours following a crash where a driver said he was distracted by a text message.

According to the Norwalk Reflector, on Wednesday evening, 45 year-old Matthew Strecker of Monroeville reportedly hit a utility pole and sheered it in half on Thomas Road between State Route 113 and Bryan Road in Oxford Township.

Strecker faces charges of texting while driving, failure to control and leaving the scene of an accident.

 

Erie-Huron County/Knifepoint store attempted robbery

A 23 year-old Norwalk man faces felony charges in connection with an alleged incident involving a knife and a store cashier in Sandusky on Wednesday evening.

According to the Sandusky Register, Charles Houghtland was charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault after he allegedly held a knife to a cashier at the Variety Village convenience store on East Market Street…with Houghtland fleeing the store after the cashier shut the register drawer.

 

State News/Prescription drug price gouging legislation

Ohio U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown is helping introduce legislation that would penalize pharmaceutical companies that engage in unnecessary price gouging.

According to Brown’s camp, the ‘Stop Price Gouging Act’ would hold drug companies accountable for large price increases and result in billions of dollars in savings for taxpayers.

 

State News/Education Board partnership announced to support rural districts

Nearly $5 million of an awarded federal five-year grant will support 30 rural Ohio school districts in hopes of finding solutions to chronic absenteeism and to assist students in becoming more college-ready.

The state Department of Education is partnering with Harvard University on the project.
