Voters living in the Norwalk City School District will see a tax levy on the May ballot.

Exactly what kind of levy remains unknown. The Board of Education discussed different options last night, including a five-year, five-mill levy previously suggested by superintendent Dennis Doughty. The board agreed to meet again next Tuesday, and if necessary, January 28th to decide what type of levy will go on the spring ballot.

 

In other business last night, new board member Kevin Cashen was sworn in.

John Lendrum was elected board president, and Ralph Ritzenthaler, vice-president.

 

Bill Monaghan will again serve as president of the Erie County Commissioners.

Pat Shenigo will serve as vice-president in 2014.

 

Lucas County officials say three Toledo-area people have died from a dangerous flu strain since the end of 2013.

Two were in their early 60’s, the other, 70. The county’s health commissioner said all three died from the same H1N1 strain of the flu virus.

 

Eight men were arrested, after an early morning fight in the parking lot of Kalahari Resort.

It happened at 2am Monday. Two Urichsville, Ohio men told deputies six Cleveland men attacked them, and demanded their money. They also claimed one of the attackers pulled a gun. The Cleveland men told a different story. They said the Urichsville men called them racial slurs, when they refused to give the two a ride to a nearby gas station.

Deputies found no gun. One of the men was jailed on a Cleveland police warrant. The rest were charged with disorderly conduct.

 

An 81-year-old Greenwich man is facing up to five years in prison for inappropriately touching a teenage female relative.

Robert Schultz pleaded guilty yesterday to a third-degree felony charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.  In exchange, Huron County Prosecutor Russ Leffler dismissed three other charges.  Schultz will be sentenced next month.

 

Secret Service Agents are investigating counterfeit money found at some businesses here in northern Ohio.

Someone has been passing fake $50 and $100 bills at stores and restaurants and getting away before the phony money is detected.
